Phillip Fulmer interested per Cotlar

Fulmer is like a chick that was super hot 10 years ago and really let herself go. Unless Fulmer is willing to put in the work to be a great coach again (get a boob job and start working out) I don't think he'd be a great fit. IMO the only thing he brings over a guy like Pat Hill would be the recruiting contacts but Tennessee's recruiting has really fallen off over the last few years which would explain why he got fired.

Re: Phillip Fulmer

I am not real interested in Fulmer, his team has been in a decline for the last couple of years. I want someone who will be jacked up to be here and bring enthusiasm to the players and the fan base because I think with the right hire we could be a good team next season.

Well, if you consider a 9-4 season in 2006 and a 10-4 season in 2007 followed up with his 5-7 season this year, yeah, I'd settle for that kind of "decline"...

Re: Phillip Fulmer

Really? He just took UT with all the built in advantages it has and ran it into the ground. My uncle was an all-american at UT and still has ties to the school...let's say he's not a huge fan of PF.

He did? He was only the head coach there for 17 years and in that time had 2 losing seasons. With the exception of those two years and his first season (when he went 4-0), the guy has never won less than 8 games.

Yeah, this guy really drove his program into the ground...

I'm not sure Jamie is looking for a guy that will use the ISU job as a taper-down toward retirement. I think he is looking for that guy who has a burning desire to build something. I'm not sure Fullmer is at that point in his life.

I've never seen a coach that wanted to "taper down" his career. In fact 99.99% want to go out on a high note. People like Fulmer don't take jobs and then coast. Also, his age would be attractive to the hot young coordinators out there as there is a good chance ot move up.

I would rather have Gene Chizik back than Phil Fulmer. He's shady at best. He's past the point where he would be a passionate hire. He's had more talent at Tennessee than almost every program in the country and still didn't deliver results to match the talent. He's just not an ISU guy. He won't be the next coach at ISU, and we should be happy about it.

That's some good snark.

As unlikely as it would be for Fulmer to come here, these threads have proven that there will ALWAYS be people finding a reason to *****. Come on, a Fulmer hire would be like winning a BCS bowl this year because it would almost ensure one in the next few years.

Have a couple of beers, and you will like him just fine:biglaugh:

There should be an instant alert to a psychiatric ward to come pick up posters on here who would be against a hire such as this. Are some of you serious??

I can't get excited no matter who we hire at this point. I'll be excited when we win games. Probably no sooner. Sad but true. The complete waste of my time that has been ISU athletics the last 2 weeks has really drained me. This is my issue...nobody elses.

We could hire Pete Carroll with Urban Meyer as DC and Bob Stoops as OC and someone on here would *****.

Thats a little agressive. But I agree..it would be huge for Iowa State. No one is even talking about the tie with Johnny Majors here..there is something to be said there. As well as the fact that this is the only BCS coach opening in the country.

I like Fulmer a lot. Guarantee the little Bo Pelini over in Nebrasky would start shaking in his knees if we brought Fulmer in.

I was thinking the same until this news popped up today. Point well taken though, if this is a true Cyclone event everything will fall through very soon and we'll be hiring the Valley coach.

Its funny how many hawkeye fans are emailing me and coming over to my desk to talk about this possibility... I can sense fear in them...

We said this when Chiz was hired. Seriously, we are a long way from striking fear into anybody.
