Paul Shirley Interview

So Shirley basically confirmed that HInrich and Collison were ISU bound, then Floyd left. Interesting ripple effect Phil Jackson retiring had on ISU basketball.

That was pretty well known. I'm pretty sure that Heinrich was actually verbally committed to Iowa State.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'll drop my phone in the washing machine or the dog poop or drip paint on it..

Never realized it until this podcast, but charter and paul have very similar mannerisms. Was thinking that and CW made a similar observation toward the end.

Apparently Charter's wife has a type.
Oh

Oh gosh no. I never had a thing for Paul. That was a friend. But from his twitter profile pic he’s changed a bit. I may be more interested.

My ex worked with Paul’s mom Nancy and really liked her. Said Paul was kind of arrogant in a socially awkward way.

Now I’m wondering if her and Paul dated because she was ******* tall. Why would she know him otherwise. Hmm

Since he gave us a glimpse into the hampton debacle, maybe Charter can get Georges to fill us in on what the hell happened leading up to UAB

Chris and I just completed an hour long interview with Paul Shirley. If you are an Iowa State fan, this is a must-listen to podcast. Paul is extremely honest and will shed some light on things you might have never heard about.

For those out there that are NOT fans of the Fawcast, this will be the week to make an exception and give it a listen!

It will be posted shortly.
Loved the podcast. Please get more players from around this era..would love to hear from dedric willouby, Julius, kato, etc

What a damn shame Floyd left for the Bulls. Hinrich and Collison were on their way to Ames. Floyd had it absolutely rolling as well he would have added a few more big time recruits to play with those two. A couple Final Fours and possible national title is not a stretch of the imagination.

Pair that with the fact Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott played in our backyard that hurts pretty bad. If McDermott has thing rolling both of them are Clones.

I went to high school with Nick and will say everything Shirley said pretty much lined up with what we knew. Add Heinrich and Collison to that team with Fizer, Tinsley, etc....wow. What could have been.

I think Eustachy got Tinsley, where as Floyd would'ven been the reason for the first 3. Guess we'll never know who would/wouldn't have been in an ISU uniform had Floyd stayed.

Probably never would have got Tinsley if Floyd stays and Kirk and Nick both come.

Thanks for paying for this site Mark, so that the dicks on here can complain about the content you provide us for free.

That was a great podcast. Listened to it this morning while in line for the RV lot. I don't know how anyone can dismiss Paul Shirley as whiny. He says what he thinks, including negative stuff, but it is pretty well thought out. And interesting. Now, several of the posters in this thread. That is whiny!

Awesome podcast. Love hearing Paul's take. I think he is absolutely right on a lot of things about fanbases. His take on ISU fans not being super thrilled with him can be applied to any non-bluebood or brand name school.

Best FAWCast ever. And I'm a big fan so that's saying something.

I think Paul Shirley is one of the most misunderstood people in ISU History. He doesn't do himself any favors with his choice of words and demeanor. But I really get the impression he's very honest. Too honest for most ISU fans.

Anyway, it was a fantastic interview and Kudos to the FAWcrew for actually asking him about point shaving and some of the other rumors of the era
