Paul Rhoads on Daniel Kuehl

CPR comes off a little over defensive in his response.

Wow, you must be nervous about the direction of Iowa State football.....

Usually you only criticize Iowa State, and defend your beloved hawks in the rivals section....

Hmmmm....Interesting.

I think we've seen every angle of this thread. Can we shut it down now mods? I'm getting tired of DK being singled out on here.

That's kind of how it works.

If he throws a perfect pass he is a hero.

I agree with the call and the personnel for the record... but it's not fair to say "Close this because they are picking on another Sioux City boy"

...and thus my point; not a new perspective on the play.

In my opinion, great call. It was just not executed well.

Reality is, Kuehl gave it his best shot and came up short. Based on my experiences, this will not be the first time in his young life where he will come up a little short. I am confident with the guidance from the coaching staff he will learn from the mistake and improve the next time it is called.

I want to win as much as the next guy but it was just a game. Anyone on here who thinks they are feeling let down by the ending of the game have no idea what Kuehl feels. From me, thanks Kuehl for all the hard work you put in each day and keep your head up as we will need you some time down the road.

ISU4ME- Well put, and I don't think anybody on here thinks Kuehl is anything but a great kid. The debate is whether you should use a punter as a holder when he will likely have to throw a good pass or passes someday to win some games. Yes Kuehl executed a pitch well on a fake, but in a pitch you push the ball, not throw it, and in fact he did push the ball instead of throw it against NU. If ability, training and experience don't mean anything, why don't we have lawyers treat our illnesses and doctors defend us in court. There are plenty of other coaches who use back up qb's as holders for just such a purpose, to win a big game or two when a good pass is needed on a fake fieldgoal or pat. CPR is a great coach and I believe he will evaluate the situation after the season to determine if we need to use one of our qb's deep in the depth chart as a holder going into next year. If he's going to use more fakes than our past coaches, I hope we see a back-up qb there, but obviously the call is all his.
