Solid quote from Coach Rhoads on Daniel Kuehl. A reporter asked Rhoads how Kuehl was doing emotionally after Saturday's game.

“You mean Daniel Kuehl, the same guy who ran a fake field goal perfectly early in the season as our backup punter and the holder who took that fake field goal right to the last second, drew all of the UNI defenders in and pitched it at the perfect time to allow us to move the first down chains and score a touchdown against UNI? Daniel Kuehl is doing pretty good. He’ll do a nice job of holding again this week and if I ask him to run a fake, I bet he goes out and executes it perfectly.â€￾

I wonder how Kuehl was able to run that option play. I mean he wasn't a QB in high school and I doubt he ever ran an option play before in a a real game:jimlad:

What a great answer by Rhoads

Didn't ISU run a successful fake of some sort vs Tech as well?

I'd love to see the percentage for Rhoads in terms of his 4th down calls, fake punts/field goals and onside kicks.

I'd bet hes firing at over 60% on everything combined.

I like that he stands by his guy.

Has CPR addressed what actually happened? Was that the way Kuehl threw the ball in practice? Or did it slip in the game?

Pretty sure that after Saturday, he is 75 percent on fakes...3 for 4. That's what he said today at least.

And yes, Iowa State ran a fake punt vs. Tech. Kirby Van Der Kamp handled that one I believe.

I think he mentioned something like 75 % in his press conference

I love it. And Rhoads is absolutely right. If you are a player you gotta love the guy. And I like the idea that he brings up the fact that Kuehl has made some pretty damn good plays.

Kuehl saw Franklin wide open and didn't just "throw" the ball. He had too much time to think about it and tried to make it "safe", instead of just reacting and fundamentally throwing it.

CPR comes off a little over defensive in his response.

Why wouldn't he be a little defensive when you have a bunch of armchair QB's across Iowa today second guessing your decision. I stand behind Rhoads 100% and can see why he would be a little defensive.

Not coming against you cyclones6785......

Did anyone else notice that the long snapper seemed to be having trouble on all the field goal attempts Saturday? It seemed like Kuehl had to dig every one out of the dirt. Maybe it was just my angle.

Guarantee you that Kuehl doesn't throw that way in practice, otherwise CPR would have never called that play or found a different holder long ago.

I love that he can tell us about the backup punter, and not just because of one play on Saturday.

CPR knows his stuff, and he has this stuff all charted out and studied as well, not just a gut instinct.

As a player, I would be so pumped up knowing that my coach is standing up for me like that.

Didn't say. Conventional wisdom tells me that if Kuehl couldn't make the throw in practice, Rhoads wouldn't have called it in a game.

Exactly. At the time, I thought it looked like a "girl throw," but then I remembered how many times I've seen the ball slip and heard people say the same thing.

I bet the kid can throw a football pretty darn good, it is just that on Saturday, with the pressure on, he didn't. He isn't the first ISU player to not come through in the clutch and he will not be the last. This one just hurt more than most.
