Outcoached in Every Way

I'm not doubting there are things the staff could do different. What I am refuting are the babies that week after week 100% blame coaching when there were brilliant coaching moves to put ISU in position to win. And there are facts there in the 2nd half were coaches had the players in a spot to win and the players didn't come thru.

Was this the worst coached game of the season, no. Is this another example of being out coached that can be added to an incredibly long list, yes.

Thats the point. I, as well as many others, are sick of this ****. Its not getting better.

Totally agree. It's not like we lucked into a position to have a chance to win in first place...

SOME of that must have been coaching right?

**** you. One ref signaled first down on the Epps catch. ISU got hosed.

Shut up.

If it's that bad of a spot you call timeout so the spot can be corrected. Yes you would rather use TOs on defense, but the clock was running so it wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

Second, you've got two plays to make a few inches. The smallest amount of competence makes that play a non-factor.

That sequence was a complete bed wetting.

And some of those were 3rd and very long.
Just sad defense play calling.

It's worse than it looks. Their average 3rd down distance was 8.6 yards. We had them in an average of 3rd and 9. They gained an average of 12.5 yards per play on 3rd down alone. Their average per-play was 5.8 on the game, but on 3rd down, they more than doubled that.

Have we tried dropping 8 and rushing 3 on third and long yet? That seems like it should work.

Good effort, but once again we failed to make plays that were there to make. If we had a limited sample it wouldn't be incriminating, but after 7 years you know those plays will just not be made at a high enough rate.

This is almost unbelievable.
We are the only team in the country that would have called a play not knowing it was a first down! The "only" team. We are the only team that does a lot of things to again figure out a way to lose.

THAT is a horrible stat.

This thread is rediculous. We didnt get out coached. We had one bad play call and that was the third and one. We got out talented. Our coaches had a better game plan than osu. The talent just finally caught up with us. We held them better than most of the other teams. I thought we played good and the coaches coached good. We just lost to a better team. Like every other team they have played.

Oops...better check that. The only team in the country that called plays knowing it "wasn't" a first down. Always remember "We are Iowa State"

Do any of you nimrods realize that OSU is undefeated and #8? Sure, we could have had a better second half, but I can't find fault with much other than the outcome.

To be honest, I am really torn on this.

Do we give credit to our coaches for having us in the entire game, against an undefeated No. 8, or do we blame the 2nd half coaching for costing us this game?

I really don't know.

When we have 300 yards the first half and 100 in the 2nd half we were out coached. When we score 4 times in the first half (including 3 drives in a row) and once in the second half we were outcoached. When it's 3rd and LONG multiple times and they get it every time in the 2nd half we were outcoached. When it's 3rd and inches and we pass from the shotgun we were outcoached.

You seem pretty sharp and totally not regurgitating what others have said. What things do you think we should have done differently? What areas of their defense should we have exploited?

The only criticism you can have of the coaching in this game is the 3rd down call.

Bobby La Gesse @BobbyLaGesse

Just got done with interviews. The ISU staff thought that third-and-one was a first down and called a play accordingly

This is almost unbelievable.

Yep. If people don't like us using the word "adjustments", how about we talk about in game management? Does that work?

Ok, i'll give that to you. How about some more examples of how we were outcoahed? Some specifics instead of the cop out of failing to make adjustments.
