OT - Cutting Cable

Are you really going to run it as a switch? Or will you have a switch in front of it already?
I have the 4-port on my NetGear, that feeds a line to my basement where this will device will plug into. Then I will have 4 devices hooked up hard-wire there.

I'm looking to switch to mediacom here soon unless the mi-fiber network set up is operational soon.

I'll be using the 100 or 200mpbs service, don't need 500 or 1 gb. Right now I have the CL DSL modem/router and 20mbps.

Looking for a good recommendation for a modem and router for 1800sqft ranch. I steam tv services, and usually have a total of 6-8 devices connected. I have a detached garage and will probably put a repeater/extender out there.

Cannot say enough good things about this: https://store.ui.com/products/unifi-ac-pro?variant=14370156445785

And buy a docsis 3.1 modem, even though you only need a 3.0 for 100 or 200mbps, that will save you in case you go to 500 or 1G. We went to 1G because we needed the bandwidth cap not for the speed.

I would suggest you look into the
Still need a modem though. But I think I’d buy the least expensive modem and then build the rest of the network with Ubiquiti stuff.

YTTV has a free 2 week trial going on right now. I've been using it the past 2 days. So far it has exceeded my expectations and is great! I will be cancelling hulu live, go back down to standard hulu subscription and continue with YTTV. YTTV is legit as promised on here.

For all those wondering, I've tried all the main ones; sling, DTV now, PS vue, hulu live, philo and YTTV. The best combination in my opinion is YTTV & Philo. YTTV and philo have very similar UI and Philo bridges the gap in channels that YTTV and vise vesa. They complement each other well.

You don't need any other special hardware or software to run this? I can plug directly into my modem?

You need something to serve DHCP addresses, not sure if your modem can do that or not. I still use my asus router to serve DHCP, I just shut off the wireless transmitters.

Only issue I have with YTTV is that ch8 has a sync problem and you get the national ch 13 feed instead of WHO.

Got a roku to try, what a piece of crap. I could not get it to stream more than 10 min of any of the games this weekend before the whole thing rebooted. Have one of the new apple tv's for my bedroom TV and that thing is rock solid. I guess there is a reason Roku is so cheap.

What Roku did you get? I have the 4K Roku Ultra and it never, ever has issues. I have 100MB mediacom internet and the Roku is hooked up to through an ethernet connection

My dad has the 4K streaming stick with 15mb internet from Century Link and also doesn't have issues

I set up 100mb Mediacom internt in DSM for a 1500sf ranch and used these

Modem: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/motoro...3-0-cable-modem-black/5709189.p?skuId=5709189

Router: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/linksys-ac1200-dual-band-wi-fi-router-black/5124122.p?skuId=5124122

Performance in the house is AWESOME. However I couldn't get a fast connection outside (streaming music while mowing). So I added this to a plugin close to my slide glass door and the whole backyard can be streamed.

Extender: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/linksy...VkcDACh2fKgD1EAQYBSABEgKvkfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Solved that problem but does slow down the network when plugged in. So I unplug it from the wall outlet when I'm not planning on being outside

Sounds like DTNOW is going up to $50 minimum without Viacom channels, but including HBO.

I have YTTV and love it, but I also have HBO Now, so that’s $55 comparably. But to me $50 is kind of the threshold for any single streaming service. I wonder if we’re going to see the streaming services start to overextend on pricing. They have creeped up seemingly every 6 months so far.

Glad they told Congress that the AT&T and Time Warner merger was going to save consumers money. They don't seem to learn from why the satellite/cable model is dying.

Once Disney+ and some of the other stand-alone On-Demand video services go live later this year it will be interesting to see how the cable bundles and the higher priced internet cable services fare. Content is getting fragmented off into smaller and smaller domains which will make it easier to cancel the larger bundles and just jump from one smaller On Demand service to another while you binge watch the couple of shows off each one..

Sports is one of the last thing holding things (barely) together. It will be interesting to see if any of the leagues will get rid of local blackout rules and allow anyone to buy direct from the league for even local teams in the next round of negotiations with the networks. Sounded like the NFL has the option to pull The Sunday Ticket package back from DirecTV and put it back out on the market for someone like Amazon / Twitter / Facebook to pick it up...

I will be curious to see what happens once Disney owns 60% of hulu next week. I like both hulu live and YTTV, each has their pros and cons. Now with the sports FB and BB seasons coming to an end soon, time to drop everything but Philo until August.

Directv just called, offered me choice package for 4 tv's for $99/mo for a year and then it goes to $147. He finally admitted youtube.tv is killing them for people that love sports. So pay 2x for the first year and almost 4x for the second year, for what?
