OT - Cutting Cable

Another concern is price. $60/month for Vue with the sports package that has redzone. YouTube TV is 40 without some of the sports channels like nfl network and nfl redzone. I will use it mostly to watch sports on the weekends.

It’s hard to go with Vue for 2 additional channels for $20 more a month. Vue has a better sports package. Does Vues sport package include all of the regional sports networks?

I really have had a positive experience with YouTube TV. There were only 2 glitches when YouTube TV went down (for an hour or so)...and Google gave everyone a free week that month at billing time both months! Also, I love the DVR...I can select Iowa State football and it will record every Iowa State game no matter which channel it is on. I used to have that "season pass" option with Tivo years ago but my local cable companies DVR service didn't have that option so I really like that! I have every White Sox game on my cloud DVR...and with the the way the season went...I didn't bother going back and watching any game but still have that option due to unlimited DVR and the feature to record using the "season pass" type of thing.

Yes and no. Vue's sports pack includes all the regional NBC sports channels, but not regional Fox Sports channels. You get whatever FS regional for your area in the main package tiers

Not sure if things have changed but when I made the switch to streaming my TV a little over a year ago, I went with PS Vue over others because of frame rate being 60 FPS where others were 30 FPS. Sports were my biggest concern for viewing. Not sure if it makes a difference on smaller TVs but the frame rate is noticeable on larger TVs.

I also have the additional sports pack that has the NFL Redzone that I'll cancel once the NFL regular season is over. The sports pack also has LHN for this weekends game.
Your last paragraph is what I should do. Once the NFL is over, cut the sports package and go for $50 a month (might drop to $40 unless I want to keep some other sports channels like ESPNU after)

I called Mediacom back. I signed up for $60 a month last night. I saw a promotional offer for $40 a month online and asked about it. The service person said it's the same deal.

I asked if I could get the $40 a month deal with them servicing today (I cancelled my other provider last night). They said I can only get 40 if I have them come in next Tuesday to do it, even though I already have an appointment for today.

What would you guys do? It seems like I screwed myself over, wish I could get $40 and done today.

Depends on how much $240 is worth to you over the next year. If you don't have to work, then why not wait?

Hmmm. I'm paying $50 ($40 for Core plus $10 for sports pack).

NFL RedZone, MLB Network Strike Zone, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Bases Loaded, ESPN Classic, FOX College Sports Atlantic, FOX College Sports Central, FOX College Sports Pacific, Longhorn Network, NESN, Eleven Sports, Outside TV, seven regional NBC Sports networks, and three Stadium channels.

I’m on call this week for work and know I’ll get called between now and tuesday which makes it important to have internet this week. I rushed things and should have looked online instead of calling first. I’ll cut back on some small stuff to make up for it (pop, snacks, etc).

I’m kinda desperate to bail from my old provider and switch. If they try upping next year I’ll threaten to get centurylink.

Your price stay because of the rate you originally got it? I wish it was 40...

You sure? My guide begs to differ.

Probably the worst thing I have ever done. Got Hulu Live, with the pause/rewind feature, it takes FOREVER to watch a show now

This was released today on cordcutternews:

Last year PlayStation Vue added a Sports Add-on that gave you access to additional sports channels and the ability to watch select regional sports networks out of market. (Yet only the national feed no access to most live sports events on the regional sports channels.) At launch one of the main holdouts was FOX who didn’t include their regional Fox Sports networks. Today PlayStation Vue quietly added them to their Sports Add-on.
So what is the PlayStation Vue Sports Add-on? For a $10/month add-on to your monthly Core, Elite, or Ultra plan, the new PlayStation Vue Sports Pack includes the following channels available nationwide:

  • NFL RedZone (Sept – Dec)
  • MLB Strike Zone (During regular MLB season)
  • ESPN Bases Loaded (During NCAA college baseball championship)
  • ESPN Classic (On Demand)
  • ESPN Goal Line (During regular college football season)
  • Longhorn Network
  • Outside TV
  • NESN National (regional sports network national feed)
  • Fox Sports RSN
  • YES Network
  • Stadium
  • NBCUniversal regional sports networks (national feeds):
    • CSN Chicago
    • CSN Mid-Atlantic
    • CSN New England
    • CSN Northwest
    • CSN Philadelphia
    • NBC Sports Bay Area
    • NBC Sports CA
You can add the $10 PlayStation Vue sports add-on by going into your account settings and adding it there. One warning so far PlayStation Vue has not updated their website to reflect this change but if you subscribe to the $10 sports add-on you will find the channels there according to a post on Reddit and confirmed by our readers.

Having Mediacom as the only true high speed provider sucks so bad. I pay $170/month for Cable/Tivo 3 tv's and Internet (100mbps/1TB max). If I want to cut the cord and go with something like Directv Now I'll actually be paying over $150 and have to deal with the issues that go with it. I'd most likely have to move up to the 200mbps speed because I'd be hitting my 1TB limit and I'd be back to where I started. So in summary, no good reason for me to cut the cord.

Just wanted to add, as a YouTube TV subscriber with 200mb internet speed tier with Mediacom...I've been surprised how little data is being used from their cap. I don't see a month where we'd ever go near going over with standard use.

Wow, how are you getting close to 1TB already? We use Vue and last month according to Mediacom we were at 488GB.

100 down from Mediacom is currently $40 a month. Vue/YouTube TV/DTVNow are all somewhere between $40-$60, so split that and you're at $90 a month.
