OT - Cutting Cable

Going to buy out our DTV contract and go back to the streaming route. Will be using Roku's and maybe an XBox one to stream. It looks like DTV Now has all of the channels we want for the lowest price. Anyone have issues with it?

We've had it for a few months and like it. Haven't really had any issues yet. The XBox One does not have a DTV Now app yet but one is in the works. We do use our DTV Now credentials to log into other streaming apps on our XBox One.

I use a combination of hulu and philo. $56 for both but cheaper than the DTV now and PS vue package for all the channels you get. I really only spend the $16 for philo due to the viacom a few other channels.

"AT&T is ending a promotion that offered $15 per month off DirecTV Now streaming service with unlimited wireless plans. Cord Cutters News reports that the offer will end on November 15, though existing customers will get to keep the discount if they sign up before then."

"This appears to be one of several ways that AT&T is trying to make DirecTV Now more profitable."

I had the DTNow $10 promotion once that stopped, I've switched to hulu live and haven't looked back.

bumping this...what are good ISP in Des Moines area? I'm deciding to switch to Mediacom but am having second thoughts about it. I'm planning on just going with Internet (even though they are charging a little more then their online price).

So 2 questions:

1) Recommended ISP in Des Moines?
2) A good streaming service to pair with it? I was looking at Sling and Vue to go with Mediacom's internet but would like some other opinions.

Mediacom says if I call within before a year they won't up the monthly fee. Is this true or ******** to get me to sign up with them?

With Mediacom, you can get up to 1GB in most areas. I've been with them for about 10 years, and every time my contract has been up, I call, and they will give me a pretty good deal. Right now I have 1Gb service for $69.99/month for a year. With Century Link, in my area, I can only get 8MB service.

I have tried all the streaming options and like Youtube TV the best. They have all the sports channels you could want (except Longhorn Network!) and unlimited cloud storage for recording shows/games, which has been awesome.

I think I’m down to either YouTube tv or PlayStation vue. NFL Redzone is one of my main channels which Vue has but YouTube doesn’t.

A drawback is having to get chrome cast to get vue since I don’t own a PlayStation. It seems better for my setup then roku, etc.

You have 1Gb service for $70/mo with Mediacom? I need to make some calls.

Concur on Redzone. Now that I don't have Sunday Ticket, I couldn't live without it.

I have not tried YouTubeTV -- it was not available in my area when I first cut the cord -- but my opinion is that Vue is the absolute best for sports fans. I tried all the others and nothing compares. It also has the best DVR of any I've tried, although you can only save recordings for 28 days, but I don't give a rip about that.

Side note: NFL is considering ending agreement with DirecTV in favor of a streaming option for Sunday Ticket.

I like FireTV better than chromecast.

I have their gigabit service as well. I'm not fan of Mediacom, but since they upgraded our area to fiber and I replaced their crappy modem with a DOCSIS 3.1 of my own, it has been ULTRA reliable. I haven't had so much as a blink in over a year.

I was wondering the same. I have 100 Mb for $60 a month after talking last night. Online it says for my area it is 40 per month. I’m gonna call and see what’s up with that...

They have told me before that the 500 and 1Gig service require the use of their modem. Is that not true anymore?

I am currently on Media-com's 100gb internet (1 terabyte data limit/month) in West Des Moines and paying $40/month. It will increase to $50 or $60 next summer if I remember correctly. My wife and I stream everything on our Roku Ultra and use between 25% to 33% of our monthly data cap

I had to sign up for phone service to get the deal. However, since there is a free cancel option at any time. I just called customer support and cancelled the phone service the following week.

they say the $80 for 1Gig is a promotional price for a year. How much is it after that?

Another concern is price. $60/month for Vue with the sports package that has redzone. YouTube TV is 40 without some of the sports channels like nfl network and nfl redzone. I will use it mostly to watch sports on the weekends. I can afford it but $20 extra a month might not be worth it.

It’s hard to go with Vue for 2 additional channels for $20 more a month. Vue has a better sports package. Does Vues sport package include all of the regional sports networks from NBC? I like watching some NBA games from other regional nbc sports channels so that might entice me to go with them.

Not sure if things have changed but when I made the switch to streaming my TV a little over a year ago, I went with PS Vue over others because of frame rate being 60 FPS where others were 30 FPS. Sports were my biggest concern for viewing. Not sure if it makes a difference on smaller TVs but the frame rate is noticeable on larger TVs.

I also have the additional sports pack that has the NFL Redzone that I'll cancel once the NFL regular season is over. The sports pack also has LHN for this weekends game.
