Oklahoma Predictions/Analysis

OU will hit at least 10 threes. Both teams will score 80+. Probably going to be a lot like the game in Norman last year. ISU can't afford to shoot 25% from 3 themselves.

I think rebounding is going to be the difference in this game. If we get some Melvin E. type effort from our guys I like our chances. I hope Deonte B. can continue his great play. That just might decide this game. I'll take Iowa State in another close game.

I predict GMigs serves me around 6 beers, 2 shots, and a quesadilla. For the game I see it staying within 10 points wire to wire. My keys to the game:-Burton continues his Houge-esque rebounding-MT continues his solid 3 point shooting and tenacious D-Monte hits a few of those corner 3's-Our switch D is on point and we get a hand in every shooters face beyond the ARCISU-81OK-79

Curious who gets Hield/Cousins to start. Since Nader tends to do so poorly guarding the 3, put Thomas on Hield? Or figure Hield will get his from 3, put Nader on him and try to take away his drive and put Thomas on Cousins so they both don't get hot?

My prediction is Hield will score 20+ regardless; if Cousins goes off and scores 15+ we'll lose, if we hold him under 10-12 we have a decent chance.

I don't think they have an answer for Burton. Could be his coming out party if all goes well for us.

OU by 12. They will shoot well from 3, and we will probably be down 20 at some point. We will shoot poorly from outside on the road. With the short bench, we won't have enough in the tank to make a push at the end, so i really don't even see a point where the game is in doubt.

The funny thing is if UNI doesn't hit 60% from 3 this is probably a top 3 matchup with pundits picking both sides. As it is we're viewed as some sort of significant underdog (which I have no problem with when it's @OU) and I like that for our chances.

The players on our team have experience beating the players on Oklahoma's team. They haven't done it at OU but they know they can do it on a neutral court which has to help with OU just recently getting all this hype, which I think they have earned.

I don't get the major lovefest for OU. They are the same team that capitulated to us TWICE last season, only worse because Thomas>>>>Lattin.

this might be our best team in the next decade. i plan to enjoy every game, doesn't mean I don't think we'll lose to really good teams on the road like OU.

i think its close with 5 mins to play and OU makes a late run to clinch it.

Morris- Woodard
Thomas- Cousins
(these may be switched, doesn't matter much)
Nader- Hield
Niang- Spangler
McKay- Lattin

Obviously what to do with Hield is the big question. Nader wasn't up to guarding Uthoff, and they're actually pretty similar players.

However, I love the idea of posting up Nader on offense. Buddy won't foul, because he knows how valuable he is to the team, and if he does happen to foul, all the better for Iowa St. If Nader is able to post up, or iso against Hield, OU will be forced to help down, which opens up someone, and hopefully Nader can find them. Substitute Burton's name for Nader's in this whole situation as well. Both should have similar advantages against Hield.

Some times against a guy like Hield, teams always figure that he's going to get his points, you have to slow down everyone else. In this situation, I'm thinking the opposite. Somehow find a way to slow down Hield, everyone feeds off him. Hopefully if you slow down Hield, the rest of their team trys to do too much and they begin to lose confidence.

I worry about us losing due to getting outshot from the 3 point line. UNI and Choppin State both lit it up from the three point line. One of the two beat us and the other used the 3 point shot to keep it closer than it should have been. How do these teams shoot a percentage almost twice as good as they usually do from the 3 point stripe? I worry every time we play a team that can light it up from 3 point range. Someway we need to learn how defend from the 3 point stripe without fouling and giving the other team 3 free throws.

This is the worst matchup for ISU all season, since we are terrible at defending the three and OU is the best three-point shooting team in the country. Four guys on OU are shooting over 45 percent from deep, including Spangler!

I think we'll have to play with a small lineup (as if we have much choice in lineups). Having Niang, McKay and Nader on the floor at the same time will be bad because those three cannot defend the three.

During stretches in the UNI game, we would try to trap a ball carrier near the top of the key who called for a screen. Haven't seen that since.

Last year OU was one of the teams to play Georges small, Hield guarded him at times last season, I think having Nader instead of Hogue will make that tougher on them but we'll still see it at some point. Either way, the Hield matchup should favor us size wise regardless of who he is guarding.

I remember the last game we played at OU. We tried to run and shoot with them and they just did it better and wore us out, big time. Afraid the same is going to happen, with our even shorter bench. OU by 13. Btw, am I the only one that wishes we would post up Nader more? I think that guy can score, get fouled (he makes free throws) or hit tough fade away shots, too. A lot of defenders aren't bigger than him at the wing position. Obviously I'm glad he made the Cincy '3' to win the game, but he's also 2 for 11 his last two games.

Agreed. Plus, if they start the same lineup as last game seems likely to be either Cousins or more likely Hield on Nader and I like that matchup offensively. Maybe even get a couple fouls on Buddy.

My prediction...

ISU wins at the last second after Spangler trips on his own shoelace as he tries to make a wide open dunk. Spangler then face plants on the court, destroying his entire nose and chin. After facial reconstruction surgery, Spangler takes the floor in Ames with a large facemask which throws off his vision. Spangler then clumsily lumbers around the court, doing more harm than good, falling into his teammates, and shooting air balls, and single handidly causing a 20 point loss in Ames. Therefor ending his horrific career in an unforeseen but unsurprising fashion.

If Iowa State plays with effort and focus for 40 minutes it will be a close game
