Conference season *******. Child's play is over with, it's time for big boy basketball.

Things I like going into Saturday's game:

-Opening conference play on the road vs a top 2 team should give Iowa St a nothing to lose approach.

-Oklahoma hasn't played since their game in Hawaii on Christmas.

-OU travels to Lawrence for a potential epic Big Monday matchup just a day after we play them. Ever since Iowa upset MSU, you know they're thinking about that 1 vs 2 matchup. And actually OU will probably be #1 in the coaches, and KU #1 in the AP, so could be #1 vs #1

-Their team isn't that much different than last season, just a year older. Lost Thomas.

-They have been averaging 12.5 turnovers/game.

Things that scare me:

-Buddy Hield. He is averaging 25 per.

-Oklahoma has dominated opponents, including Villanova.

-They're shooting 46% from 3 as a team. Hield at 53% Woodard at 52% Spangler at 48% Cousins at 46%

-They have depth. Hield, Spangler, Cousins, and Woodard play 27+ Their 5th will be around 20, and they will bring 4 or 5 off the bench.

-Buddy FREAKING Hield

Here's a couple of OU boards to keep an eye on:

I'm not calling a win, but I think the guys come out ready to play, especially the seniors and Monte.

OU has finally just received the full-on media lovefest they probably deserved all year and that often doesn't do wonders for college players mentally.

Oklahoma is good but their stats are a bit inflated with a fairly poor non-conf schedule. Take whatever ranking/poll you like and Villanova is the only good team they played (and they weren't all that good when they played them). In fact, Villanova still hasn't beat a notable team with their best win against St Joseph's.

They press the ball well which also inflates numbers against average and below teams. They don't have an inside scoring threat. Spangler has improved his shot and can now put the ball on the floor, but usually defers to the guards and rarely asks for the ball.

Obviously the guards are outstanding shooters and if they are on, they are tough to beat, but since they rely on the 3 so much, they will miss. Defensive rebounding is huge. It may be the most important stat in facing OU aside from limiting turnovers.

from reading the forums they seem very confident

We're 3-2 against them the past two years with many of the same star players for both teams. Home team is 4-0, ISU 1-0 neutral. All of the games ended up close but many of them had OU with a big lead ISU closed or erased.

One fun fact is that our core of players has scored 59 points in one half on this core group of OU players, so there's that...but it was at Hilton.

The guys that killed us in Norman last year are both gone, both the big doofus hunchback and ugly 3 point shot guy, so we got that going for us.

Since winning the '96 game, I think we've won only once in Norman

Win or lose, CF meltdown.

While Buddy will give us fits, I feel Georges and Jameel might give them fits too.

The floor will be slapped to oblivion.

We don't win in Norman. Can we? Sure. I just don't see us winning. The last two games they will want revenge and given their three point shooting and our ability to let teams go off, we could very easily be rolled.

Iowa State is 5-3 vs Hield & Cousins

I'm expecting a loss. It's a winnable game if we play defence like it's the first half of the Cincy game, but obviously OU is a very dangerous team.

Right now we are a 6 man team and I don't like the odds with such a small amount of ammo. Our guys will be focused but I think OU is too much on the road. Maybe Cooke avoids an air ball that game and we pull it out.

I'm still not sure how good we are.

Without TaShawn Thomas I think we match up better than last year. ISU 87 OU 86.
