NFL: ***Official Week Eight Thread***

Missing those paychecks it appears:

I think he had to report by Week 10 in order to prevent his contract from tolling. As it is now he'll be a free agent after the 2020 season. I guess maybe the Redskins will find a more robust market for him this coming offseason but I doubt it. Nothing drives urgency like being midseason and realizing your LT position is a black hole of suck. Most teams either feel pretty good about their roster or confident of their ability to fix it in the offseason and they're less likely to make a panic trade. I don't know that they'll be any better offers than whatever was on the table until this afternoon.

Not defending Mayfield, but asking if he was happy with how the drive ended is a **** move. You ask that question hoping you’ll set him off.

Sure. That's the game for reporters and it has been for a long time. Baker should be smarter than that. His response and followup on Twitter just highlights his immaturity, not his drive or competitiveness.

His bravado and attitude only works if they are winning. The fans and the press won't tolerate it if they are losing.

And the thing is I'm not even 100% sure they're going to take care of business this weekend, even as toothless as the Broncos offense will likely be. Indy's o-line is good, and Derek Wolfe and Von Miller gave them fits last week. Those two are going to live in the backfield, which means more picks for Baker.

I think the Browns still get out of Denver with the W but losing there to...um....Brandon Allen or Brett Rypien will lead to even more scrutiny and tough questions.

Is Freddie Kitchens maybe a one and done hire? Of all the new head coaches hired in the last cycle it's gotta be him or Gase as the worst so far.

I don't disagree with anything you said, but sometimes there are people that just know how to push your buttons. There may also be some history between the two, I don't know. Why does the athlete always have to be the "bigger man" in these situations and never the sportswriters? Again, I'm no fan of Mayfield.

Because mayfield has been absolute **** this year and is supposed to be a franchise player for them

You're right; there is some history between the two going back to Mayfield's pre-draft visits. But to answer your question a QB for an NFL franchise isn't just the QB. He's also more often than not the face of the franchise, and fair or not, he's expected to conduct himself in a certain way. Grossi was hunting for quotes and clicks; you'll get no argument from me on that. But Mayfield made it worse by letting the questions get to him. It's just part of learning how to be a pro. He has a long way to go.

For what it's worth, it's not uncommon for young quarterbacks to have some growing pains in learning how to conduct themselves around the media either. Seven years into his career, Peyton Manning was still calling teammates "liquored up idiot kickers" and throwing his offensive line under the bus after a bad playoff loss.
