*** Official UNI vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I'll take a 3 touchdown win over UNI. There were some real positives from the game:
  • Special teams. 2 nice punt returns, 56 yard fg and long punts that flipped the field.
  • Brecht was solid. Got rid of ball quickly and didn't make mistakes. I feel like Brecht earned the right to get all QB snaps against Iowa.
  • We have a solid group of TE's who each bring different skills.
  • Our defense was disruptive - 5 QB sacks & 2 INT's. THAT ROUGHING CALL ON ELLIS WAS BS!! Bacon brought it!
Some concerns after game 1:
  • Our run blocking was disappointing. Didn't see us creating holes.
  • Production from our WR's was almost non-existent. We need to be able to stretch teams vertically.
  • UNI was able to run on the edge.
  • Thought our pass rush was effective, but guys seemed to get out of position at times. Against the Hawks we need to get QB pressure and keep QB in pocket. They love bootleg passes to TE's.
Overall a nice start. Very much a work in progress. My hope this is a team that is light years better in November vs. today.
Disagree on keeping the QB in the pocket. McNamara was laboring when he had to move off of his mark. He is not healthy, and we need to get him uncomfortable.

I don't think they'll draw up too many bootlegs with his injury.

Maybe a hard tackle like we put on Day on the first drive is in order :)

Agree. Pressure like they did to drew tate. Man did he ever curl up that game. Cade going have big time trouble once he has to leave the pocket.

Iowa doesn't run the bootleg for QB to run, it's about misdirection and timing routes to TE's & WR. Keep McNamara in the pocket and it throws off passing lanes.

Yeah, thanks. You still have to use a little burst to roll out on the bootleg. Did you watch their game? He can't accelerate or make cuts. They were mostly out of the shotgun on passes. Move him out of the pocket, and he will either take sacks or make a mistake trying to get rid of the ball before he wants to.

Looks like College Gameday is going to highlight the gambling probe at Iowa State. They listed it as a story in the show start up next to an ISU logo.

I am certain they will ask the hard questions like… why isn’t this being investigated in all 50 states and also include the Hawkeyes in the story.

I skimmed through gameday and all I saw was 2 small mentions. No big segment on it that I saw. Wonder if something more could be done this week with cyhawk and both teams affected by this gambling situation.

Same. I expected to see a short segment that never came. Guessing you are right about this week being more likely.

They did however have several segments on gambling and gambling advice, etc… which is just such hypocritical BS.

The weird thing being that it seems both teams have moved on from it.

A couple of articles (KCRG maybe?) made sure to have a full paragraph detailing who was out for ISU like the team was still recovering from the 'news' when they've reportedly known and moved on since spring.
