Official ISU vs Texas AM Post Game Thread

The reason our defense is poor has little to do with schemes in my opinion. WE DON'T HAVE THE ATHLETES TO COMPETE IN THE BIG 12! WE ARE TOTALLY OUTMANNED. OUR KIDS TRY HARD BUT THEY ARE OVERMATCHED. I'm not a kool aid drinker I'm a football coach. I don't see how anyone can watch us play and not notice that the other teams players are bigger, faster, and stronger than ours. Can this staff turn our program around? Only time will tell. Talk of firing them now is pure lunacy imho. We have a long ways to go and it won't be easy.

Even my 15 year daughter comments how much bigger the players were. We look like high schoolers vs the NFL tonight.

Reasons why we lost today:

We have the worst safeties in football. The worst

Couldn't get a stop on 3rd down all day long. We were pretty good on first and second down. Pathetic on 3rd down

Couldn't finish a couple drives

Got ****ed by the refs. How we got screwed on that call I will never know. That was X10 worse than the helmet to helmet call against Iowa. Truly makes me want to puke

Our safeties are absolutely terrible. I know these are kids out there giving it there all but they are just really bad. The design of the defense requires great safeties but they just killed us tonight. I would go as far to say that our safety play was responsible for 35 of the 49 points. Did I mention they are really bad?

I left the game when onside kick happened but after listening to John and Eric I felt you got screwed. I went home and looked at it and a&m didn't touch the ball. As for my thoughts. Somewhere Mac is laughing. People talk about this taking time. The ISU team Mac inherited vs what Gene got is even a debate. Coaches taking over new programs have to succeed by doing a combination of using what you got and putting your style on them. Last year in Gene's first year you have the best QB/WR tandem that ISU will ever have in BM and TB. We saw last year in the Kent State game them got BM to TB to start second half and scored, and then he proceeded to do little of that the rest of the year. I am so tired of this will take time excuse and that we are young. If they are talented enough to play as underclassmen that excuse is BS. Bright side we saw little of that everyone turn their head to the coaches crap. ISU WOMEN's BASKETBALL can't get here soon enough. It's the one sport Pollard hasn't turned to crap!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes, hello there. May I ask where are our Juniors and Seniors? DMac is laughing because he left the cupboards absolutely bare. It wasn't just about losing games, DMac's recruiting was pathetic too. Hate to break it to you, but DMac left the program in as bad of shape as he found it.

As for JP, we seem to be doing quite a bit better in wrestling, soccer, and volleyball since he came aboard. Men's basketball the jury is still out, LE really did a lot of harm to our program. But whatever. I guess you long for those great days of JVDV or whatever his name was. Yeah, he was a real go-getter. He actually makes Barta look competent.

That is what I kept saying all night. That, and our DT's are not up to par. Horrible combination. GC should have open tryouts for starter at each safety position this week. Give Sandvig a chance, he can't be any worse than the guys we have out there.

How many people in this thread love McCarney more than they love Iowa State...seems like a LOT. My guess is if Mac was still our coach our record to date is 2-6. He probably beats Iowa but drops one of the first two. And the guy that think Meyer and Blythe are the greatest ever??? Please. Stats don't tell the whole story, and if we never see a better QB/WR combo I should give up now. They may have been prolific but both had some major holes in talent...especially meyer.

What the hell does McCarney have to do with ANYTHING?!!!

I liked McCarney. I argued against firing him. That's irrelevant. He's gone, get over it. On BOTH sides.

I AGREE?!!! My point was he keeps sneaking into this thread like he would of had us at 7 or 8 wins at this point, which is total crap. I would prefer his name not come up and I argued for his firing. It is much more tolerable to watch garbage from a new coach than see garbage in a coaches 13th year.

The good thing is, hopefully some of the recruits (did Mike Marry make it--and see LJ have a good game?), and realize there is PY available.

I'm worn out. This was my first game in years--and thank you to the Cardinals fan who sold me and my friends three wonderful seats in Section Ten. :notworthy:

A couple things I dont understand about tonights game.

1) How did our returners forget that a kick off is a live ball if it goes more than 10 yards. ? Then why do you instantly fair catch a kickoff if it goes straight to one of the up men ?

2) Can any of our 6 corners play safety ?

3) I know Jesse Smith is a 'gamer' but his lack of speed is very apparently when opponents pick us apart by throwing across the middle. A Cover 2 Middle linebacker needs to be fast.

There were some good things to come of tonight. 1) The song that shall not be named wasn't played 2) The crowd brought it tonight.. the defense...not so much...

They did open the play book up some. Fair catches on KOs, wtf. We need good DB play, need to learn to block, need to learn how to get through pass blocks, and learn to catch.

Oh yes, kickoffs. Every Big 12 team who watches our tape will now know they just have to kick the ball straight up and to the second level if they don't want to have to worry about a return.

What it comes down to is that we are a bad football team. A very bad football team. Sure, we catch lightning in a bottle for a quarter, or maybe a half, things happen to click. But our talent is lacking, our system on both sides of the ball is suspect, and it's going to take time, maybe a lot of time to fix it.

I thought this was the best playcalling we had in weeks. They did try to open it up, they used the tight ends much more, they used the middle of the field more than we normally do, and we showed the defense some new things with the direct snap. Hopefully we see some variation with that in the future.

And I thought it was apparent that Arnaud's arm was feeling better than last week.
