Official ISU vs Texas AM Post Game Thread

I thought we had a great weightlifting regimen durng the summer and that everyone was pumped up ready to go. We sent one Dan weightligfting coach who won awards packing and replaced him with two great coaches. So now we are not only slower, we are weaker still?

That might be true. But we don't have the athletes to compete with UNLV either? Kent state? South Dakato State?

We beat South Dakota State and Kent State (this year). You could add Toledo and Kent State (last year) to the list. Those games were not lost because we were dominated physically, those games were lost because of poor discipline and poor effort.

Here are my random thoughts. Haven't been to a computer to post until now.

1) Kudos to the fans for 46,000 to show up for a game like that. In 1988 there would've been 29,000

2) The onside kick thing was a debacle. I'm pissed at the refs but I'm MORE disappointed in Chizik for not going CRAZY on the refs. I'm not a McCarney guy but you have to admit he would have GONE NUTS and probably been flagged or kicked out of the game. Is it the right thing to do? I think so. You have to stick up for your kids an show passion. -1 for Chizik.

3) Put me in the group that agrees we need to be patient and not think crazy. That being said, the hard part is...our best players are freshmen and sophomores. When they mature and blossom they'll be juniors and seniors and for that...CONRATS!...we get Utah & Iowa in non-conference with Tech, Texas, & Oklahoma in the Big 12 back on the schedule. Even worse, their senior year we get Utah, Iowa, & UConn in 3 consecutive weeks to start the year with a separate 3 game stretch of Texas Tech, Oklahoma, & Texas. Why the hell are we playing anyone that is ANY good in the non-conference besides Iowa? Why? See Minnesota for an example of how to schedule. I know people say..."the conference changes all the time, who'd of thought Kansas would be great last year?" My response? "You're right...but Texas & Oklahoma are ALWAYS good."

4) The guy who called in to the Cyclone Reaction show to ***** about how we really need a playmaker at punt returner was on crack. What difference would a playmaker to return punts make when you only make the other team punt once and that is from your own 35 and they down it at the 4? My God people are stupid.

5) We make average, young QB's with a bright future look like Heisman finalists who threaten to break passing % records.

6) Arnaud is good, going to be very good. But, I hope he stays healthy (see above for reasons why).

7) Texas A&M first 9 possessions...7 TD's, 1 first snap fumble after we fumbled, & 1 punt downed inside the 5.

8) How do you lose by 14 when you have 584 yards and over 30 first downs?

8b) Answer? Bad teams find a way to lose.

That reminded me of something. On that TAMU punt the guy who downed it clearly went in the end zone and came out then touched it. How was that not a touch back and how was that play not reviewed???

As far as the pass rush, we did knock their QB down a few times. The problem was that on every pass play, every receiver seemed like they were open. The QB was probably thinking, which open receiver do I throw it to? I agree we could have a better pass rush, but it seemed we had no pass breakups either. With our coverage we need a sack or QB hurry on every pass play or else it will be a completion.

Offense really opened things up, which made the game fun for the fans and we moved the ball. Did Mike Knapp start the game and get hurt? I feel bad because we ran the ball well until he went down. I think Ben Lamaak got hurt as well.

Otherwise, great showing by the fans. With the way our team is playing and to have the size of crowd last night really shows we have great fans.

When we knocked their QB down, it was a linebacker doing the hitting. And the QB was doing the throwing to the wide open receiver in the zone that the blitzing linebacker had to vacate to provide pressure. Our defensive line is brutally bad at pressuring the QB, but they have been decent at stopping the run.

Mike Knapp started the game but went out with an injury in the first offensive drive. We rushed for another 150 yards or so after he went out, so we ran fine on them after that. The thing is, A$M has one of the worst run defenses in the conference, I believe.

I'm thinking about trying to find out if we've EVER played a Big 12 game in which we did not have to punt.

evvryone talks about danny mac so much.is anyone certain that chizik and bolt did not find one of danny mac's defensive playbooks and being that they thought danny mac was such a defensive wizard they thought by using danny mac's widardry we would come up with a great defense this year??????

And the guy that think Meyer and Blythe are the greatest ever??? Please. Stats don't tell the whole story, and if we never see a better QB/WR combo I should give up now. They may have been prolific but both had some major holes in talent...especially meyer.

I'm that guy. That's right let's bash on the two kids from this state who could of gone to the darkside of this state and probably played in a couple of Jan. bowl games, but came here to be a part of something special. In doing so they rewrote the record books and if we had a kicker worth a crap should have gotten to back to back big 12 champ. game app. I was a major Meyer critic but even I can appreciate what that he and Blythe did for us.

As for JP, we seem to be doing quite a bit better in wrestling, soccer, and volleyball since he came aboard.

That's good because those sports are real revenue makers for us.

We had one very crucial sack from KT that caused a turnover. The pass rush is really bad but I would'nt include KT.

The coverage was also really bad. We were burned short and long, in zone and man. I saw maybe 2 or 3 plays of tight coverage all night.

The offense had a good game.

If our DL is so bad, why aren't we trying to get some talent there? The DL recruiting is really weak.

I think defensively we are caught in no man's land right now. We know we need to stop the spread offense, but we just don't have
the talent. The coaches know this as well - we've seen a lot of recruiting geared towards this goal. I really think they know the right direction and are maybe moving in that path. It just doesn't show yet.

We had a true freshman start and some other decent ones reshirting. A recruit picked up right now probably wont help too much as DL typically need some time to develop into great players. The problem now is our JR and SR linemen just arent that good...
