I have heard this line before, and it might be true. But if ND has such a nagging grudge against the big10, why do they keep playing so many big10 schools, and thereby helping the big10?

I thought the reason ND didn't like the Big Ten was because of the stem cell research that Big Ten universities perform that isn't sanctioned by the Catholic church?

Could be, but that particular issue seems like a red herring to me. I can't imagine that ND could end up in a conference where one of their partners didn't perform that sort of research; Stanford (Pac), Texas (Big 12), UNC (ACC). I don't know if these institutions do or don't and maybe they don't but I get the feeling that ND could be a B1G member strictly athletically if they wanted to. A school like UNC would be MUCH more attractive to the CIC membership than ND imo if research is a big factor.

1. The Michigan-ND game is over for the foreseeable future
2. The Purdue-ND rivalry exists more because it's an in-state rivalry
3. With the deal with the ACC, the status of the Michigan St-ND rivalry is uncertain

ND has no other regular games with the Big 10, and I can't think of the last time they played a Big 10 team other than those three in a non-bowl setting.

I think this is just message board bs. I think the actual reason is a lot older than that. I'm pretty sure that in the earlier days of the B1G ND tried for membership and was turned down. Now that the tables have turned, they don't want to accept the B1G now that the conference has come crawling back.

Just checked future ND schedule. They play Michigan, Purdue, and MSU next year. Michigan, Purdue and Northwestern in 2014. Drop to only playing Purdue in 2015 (your in-state tie-in). In 2016 & '17 it's MSU and Purdue. 2018--Purdue, MSU & Northwestern. 2019 & '20, Purdue and MSU, with the ACC (maybe) kicking in then. ND isn't exactly backing away from the big10. Although, perhaps after 2020 they will schedule only Purdue.

Well the fact that they quit the series vs Michigan is what has gotten both sides questioning how long they B1G plays them. Its also going to be interesting to see with the ACC games kicking in if out of the 5 they have to play if BC counts as 1 every year or not.

OK then, we'll go back to 12 with LSU and Notre Dame. Now that would be a kickass football conference.

Is there a hearing involving Maryland and the ACC buy-out happening soon? You got to believe that Clemson and FSU are paying attention to that and thus, their options in moving to the Big 12.

All in all, I don't see additions to our league until 2014 (e.g. TV contracts, 4-team playoff, etc...)

I love 10 now, since we (ISU) do make more money this way..also we are actually building "rivaly-time" with our southern members....we play everyone, see everyone every year....that is how it SHOULD be..... but for football, in the grand scheme of things, it better serves ISU to have one more "cupcake" game to help us get to 6 a lot easier like the Big 10/SEC gets now. It gets us to a bowl game. Right now we have 2 "easy" non-con games and always the one with iowa. In a conference that we are in, which is ALWAYS tough and full of talent, having that extra cupcake game helps.

"If and when" our AD supports adding members, it will be good for ISU. But for now, 10 is great....and if they decide that again in say, 2014.... it will be good $$$ for ISU, but it will still be tough to go bowling.

If I was Purdue, I would tell ND they can stuff it.

Seriously, until we have a conference championship playoff game, we will be looked upon as a great midget football conference. I don't care what KSU was playing for in their last game, it was only to be co champions with OU. Yeah, they eventually won via the OU tiebreaker, but championship games have more pzazz to the sponsors and are worth a ton of money. The B12 does not have that many eyeballs in the midwest.
