*** Official #21 IOWA STATE VS #11 Gonzaga Game(Day) Thread ***

Proud of the comeback but god damn am I sick and tired of seeing stupid threes in the last two minutes of a close game. 4 straight three point attempts missed and not one of them had an attempt to drive the ball first.

I was commenting on that as well, but that's the type of offensive team we have. Coaches give them lots of freedom and greenlight almost every shot they take and it leads to a lot of offensive flow and freedom like we saw most of the second half. On the reverse side it leads to some "hero" type shots that leave the fans shaking their heads. Have to agree we should have tried more cutting action as that was killing the Zags in the second half and we were only down by 1, so a layup is good enough to take the lead.

The last 3-4 possessions of that game were horrible. Deep, contested 3's.
Not a good way to end a game.
Totally agree; no strategy or execution. Proud how they came back from a deep hole and excellent energy for first 15 min of second half. We'll learn from this,

To be fair, Gonzaga really tightened up their zone defense and wasn't giving anything. Our guys were gassed too. I agree though, wish we didn't take those shots. However, most games, you let Naz shoot that.

Naz in 2-3 weeks makes that shot. Right now, he doesn't really have his shooting legs yet. That's my impression.

Without a true big man we are going to lose a lot of games this year

We almost beat one of the best teams in the country who also happens to have great posts and great guards and we're red hot in the first half. I have great confidence in this team. We will lose a handful of games as any team in the conference would.

We aren't going to play many teams with that kind of size and skill. Like KU and Baylor?

Outstanding job weathering the storm and fighting back. A good loss if there is such a thing. I think this tournament did a ton for this team.

Burton was under the basket and wide open when Monte went hero...Dang, hope Thomas and Long discover their shots before conference starts.

Prohm's second-half plan was perfect — using the press, and what I would call a "junk" defense in half-court. Management of the offense down the stretch was only questionable thing. Burton's offensive effort was stellar.

His management of the offense in the last couple of minutes has been brutal since he got here. Something that desperately needs to improve

You just knew we would lose by 2 when the ref made the perfect steal and assist on that free 2 points they were given in the middle of our possession.

This team is so bad at FTs and settling for 3s.

Other than that, I'm proud of how they played in the second half. Gonzaga can be a great team if they continute to improve over the season. Maybe Final 4 team.

We played really tenacious D against a really tall, really good outside shooting team. I don't really agree with your assessment. Very few teams we run into will have the same size and outside shooting ability of Gonzaga, and we were a few missed shots away from beating them, despite a poor shooting effort by our guys in the first half.

Good game, Zags are the real deal. This doesn't hurt us at all and only helps us come March. I know Matt is the cause of a lot of hate and a lot of love on here, and I'm not writing him off, but he killed us this game on offense need him to do better than 2 points.

Gonzaga and Mizzouri are on a short list.....schools that have empowered Melissa Click. Both schools should suffer the deserved penalties for the misuse of public funds and --worse--church funds or endowments given in good faith.

They could have went 2 for 1 instead of the contested 3 Burton took with 17 secs left. Morris got the rebound on that possession with 44 seconds left

Great second half of defense and Burton was an animal. Tough way to end it, but great pride and heart out of the team today. That was no easy task battling their size.

And that is why you get a couple more of these on the schedule. This was outstanding all the way around. Nothing but benefits.
