I, too, am not on board with gold glove shortstops that hit well above league average.True but at the same time - I'd be okay with that. I never totally was onboard with Swanson being honest.

How do you carry on conversation when you get posts who equate pointing out he’s an average hitter but also states elite defensively abs would rather build through the farm equals saying he’s an average overall playerHow do you carry on a conversation when you get posts saying 4.8 war equates to an average shortstop.
22 & 80, yeah average SS.How do you carry on conversation when you get posts who equate pointing out he’s an average hitter but also states elite defensively abs would rather build through the farm equals saying he’s an average overall player
Because maybe it’s just me but if you say someone is average here but elite there then that averages out to probably at least being above average based on my understanding of an elite + average metric
Maybe some. He’s elite defensively there’s no doubtUnfortunately Swanson absolutely shitting the bed all August and September has led to some people thinking he’s not as great as he is. Cheap and a hell of a defender. Would like to see him be more of a consistent threat with the bat but I’ll take it
The royals let that go to voicemailIf the Cubs offered PCA, Mervis and Wicks to the Royals for Bobby Witt Jr, who hangs up first?
That would likely be PCA, Horton, Assad + before they say hello. If the Cubs offered PCA, Mervis and Wicks to the Royals for Bobby Witt Jr, who hangs up first?
Agree on all of it except Wicks. He profiles as a 3/4 that eats a ton of innings and that's incredibly valuable for a good team. Here's how I view/rate our young pitching that's still under team control.
1,2 Steele Horton. Forgetaboutit
3,4 Alzolay, Assad only available if centerpiece for elite.
5. Brown, elite talent (w/ 1,2) wouldn't discount due to injury
6. Wicks, open for business. Sell high.
7. Little, he's what we're trying to develop. Have to be blown away to deal.
8. Ferris, heard great things. To early to part with
9. Wesneski. Make me an offer please.
@ISUCubswin curious where you stand.
I like him, I think he's more of a depth guy and not sure he can duplicate what he did this year. I think he must of been tipping the change up. It was his Wipeout pitch early to not so much later.Agree on all of it except Wicks. He profiles as a 3/4 that eats a ton of innings and that's incredibly valuable for a good team.
But the Royals trade away all their young talent on purposeThe royals let that go to voicemail
I stick him above Brown because there's no reliever risk there. He's a definite starter and I worry that Brown isn't.I like him, I think he's more of a depth guy and not sure he can duplicate what he did this year. I think he must of been tipping the change up. @1UNI2ISU where would you rank him on your list?
Not including bullpen help you're talking about adding two starters and one bat. I think I'd prefer one pitcher and two bats.I'd like to think we could get a 2025 rotation in which Horton and Steele are fighting with each other for the #3/last rotation spot in the postseason to be a statement on just how good the 1 and 2 are.
My previous post was planning ahead for 2025 - I side with you for 2024. Need to get 1 SP for sure and 2 bats. Not including bullpen help you're talking about adding two starters and one bat. I think I'd prefer one pitcher and two bats.
