***Official 2021 Vikings***

So, apparently the Panthers are/were interested in Cousins?

No idea what kind of compensation they were talking, but that's definitely a call that the Vikings should take. If Carolina is serious, great.

If somehow Minnesota was offered a 2nd round pick and a team willing to take Cousins entire contract, the Vikings should take that deal to the bank as fast as they can.
Makes me wonder if the Vikings are trying to create noise around him establish a market price. Agree if that was the offer then they should take it.

So you’d just roll with Mond then or have someone else in mind?

As it is early, there are many options available via the draft, free agency, trades, etc. One thought is that if they do trade him earlier than later, they know what they have to work with money-wise and their options become more clear.

I think Darnold is toast. You really think another new staff if going to 180 that guy?
If they want rid of KC, no picks but someone willing to pay him should be enough. The money is the thing.

The draft is terrible for QBs this year. One of the worst in a long time.

There are FA options, but not very good ones. There will be enough teams willing to see the half season of Winston and shell out some cash for him, despite traditionally being a TO machine.

No matter what they do, unless they roll with Mond they are probably going to end up in 8 win purgatory. And if they turn it over to Mond that's not going to sit well with the current players, particularly Jefferson. You are basically waving the white flag on the season.

They need picks. They can't go into the season without a serviceable QB. So then you pick up one of the FAs that aren't good and aren't going to be cheap. There are enough teams needing QBs that even mediocre QBs are going to demand a pretty high salary.

Cousins for Darnold a 2022 second and a conditional 1st if Carolina makes the playoffs.

Draft a QB at 12 or sign Fitzmagic and have a Mond, Darnold and draft/Fitz QB room for 2022.

2023 appears to have 2 elite talents at QB

Is Minshew available? He's shown he can win games at times and is mobile enough to cover up some of our OL deficiencies. I recall him not having much of a deep ball though, that may be a problem for JJ.

I don't think there's a chance that they'd get Carolina to agree to a potential 1st in addition to a 2nd, especially with the contract that they'd be taking on. If Minnesota agrees to pay a portion of the contract, maybe, but even then that's a whole lot to give up for Cousins.

The other wrinkle is that even though Cousins doesn't have a no trade clause, him coming out and saying "I won't sign an extension with X" would pretty much nix any trade that might be worked out with that team.

Roll with Cousins in 2022. Dont extend him. Dont renew him. Let the contract play out. Then you are done with him. In this years draft, draft the Iowa C or a guard. Need the offensive line to be at least grade out as an average NFL line. I believe I saw that this year's offensive line was rated in the mid 20's. The tackles are ok but the interior of the line is below average. After drafting the offensive lineman, all the other picks should be on the defensive side.

No team is going to trade for 1 year of Cousins anyway. An extension will be required no matter what.
