***Official 2017 Transfer Thread***

While I agree, we already have a flyer guy and it isn't looking all that optimistic so far. Do we really want another one?

Agree. Holden was more or less a bust, Kasongo TBD but not hopeful and Bowie was serviceable but not as good as many expected. Moving forward, I think the staff is going to be targetting players that have put up solid numbers a high major or gaudy numbers at a mid major.

I would most definitely give up one of the four scholarships to have Bowie another year being played spot minutes at the 4. He was forced into a situation he wasn't built for because of Holden and Youngs injury. Toward the end of the season, he was really helpful off the bench. I'm not saying I'd pass up Juiston for him but it'd be great to have him in addition to Juiston.

Didn't this guy say he wanted to transfer closer to home? Must've gone to the Justin Hamilton school of Geography.

Maybe he thought he's been living in Miami, FL the last year?

Still doesn't explain Boise. Maybe he thinks Boise is in Ohio.

Agree. I've been critical of last spring's recruiting, but Bowie was more of a fit issue. I think he's a Big 12 small four, but unfortunately we had one of the best in the country at his position. Even then, in certain matchups he could give you quality minutes alongside a guy like Burton when defending more perimeter oriented bigs or schemes. I'd imagine Bowie would have put up great numbers at the juco level last year.

That said, I'm thinking Messi isn't necessarily wrong either. As much as I'd take Bowie on next year's team, he isn't at the top of the wishlist. As long as you don't wait too long, some higher aspirations isn't wrong.

I get that Holden had a strange season and wasn't a "home run" transfer like Kane, but to call him a bust in my mind is going overboard. We won more games than we would have if he wasn't on the team, and he started much of the first half the season until Young was ready. As a late spring get, he was more of a fall back recruit than a bust. Bust in my mind was more to do with our primary high school big targeted recruiting.

Yeah, calling him a bust is a bit unfair. He helped us win games early in the year and always seemed like a good teammate. My point remains that the staff is going to be targeting transfers that have proven themselves at a high level already. Again, thats not to take anything away from what Holden did during his time at ISU or what Kasongo may do but I just believe the staff will be targeting better players moving forward.

Opportunity cost. Imo if the measure needed to be above a bust is an open scholarship, the player is a bust.

What in earth are you talking about? This isn't even close to opportunity cost example.
Holden was on scholarship, no? Unless you think the staff is so poor at recruiting that a bad CUSA player like Holden was the very best we could have done, Holden had an opportunity cost. Leaving it open would have arguably been better for the program.

I am not singing his praises, but also feel we may well have missed the tourney without him on the team. That is more valuable than an open scholarship. Coaches don't seem to have agreed wtih you.

Agree with that. However, last year, we thought we would have Lard, potentially Malou, and they felt pretty good about where they stood with Stokes. Late in the Spring we took what we could get. I believe the possibilities for quality bigs is greater at this time this year than it was last.

People are crazy if they think recruiting is easy. Each year every program has its busts. Even the blue bloods that are picking from the Top 50 have busts. I really think CSP has done a good job of getting the best players available. Sometimes you have to take a chance to address a need. Sometimes it works outs, sometimes it doesn't.
