No Alcohol Problem with Hawks

“â€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€You yahoo’s are quick to point out problems but you have no solutions. Proving you only wish to maim. This is pretty venomous for you, Chad, not to mention specious.

Yes quite true and I do apologize. I guess I should avoid these threads if I’m going to be up in arms. I love debate, but many don’t evaluate this stuff truthfully. As for the ped mall, I said in another post I think KF has done this before, but it wasn’t affective if memory serves and it really is cruel and unjust punishment for the responsible “othersâ€

Chad

I understand what you're saying, Chad. I don't recall a ped mall ban earlier, but I don't follow Iowa football very close (despite what I'm sure all the UI fans here think:wink:) But as a member of numerous teams in HS, I recall clearly getting punished as a group for the transgression of one. It's part of being a team. It also led to lots of self-policing within the team and some good ol' fashioned peer pressure. You know, the good kind that keeps someone from stupidity, not the bad kind that leads to a lifetime of smoking.

Fine. There is no solution. If there were a problem, things are as good as they can be. We are yahoos. Everything is fine.

Obviously I shouldn't have called anyone yahoo's and it is atypical of me. Please accept my apology. I wont do it again and as I said to Cycloin in another post I shouldn't have.

Please don't be mad or condescending.................there is a problem and you know I have never denied it. It might however be bigger than KF or Iowa is all I'm saying. I agree he needs to try something but it isn't as easy as you guys want it to be.

That's all I was saying and I obviously failed with my direction and prose. I take being brothers of Christ quite seriously and I didn’t mean to offend.

Sorry

Chad

Good follow and I concur, also don't sell your house on that ped mall thing as I may be all wet.

That's exactly what it means to be part of a team. One person screws it up, everybody ends up paying. Somehow, guys straighten each other out for the team's good.

U-Don't have to worry about recruiting at the uofi...as long as every high school fb player is literally dying to play for and get arrested at the u of iowa they will be just fine!!!

If I were a football player and they came at me with one of those black jerseys I would just PUKE and then head the other way:biglaugh::biglaugh:

Not exactly... Iowa's recruiting class is absolutely stellar thus far, and it's not even July!

That's right, it isn't even July. Get back to us in February and tell us how stellar it is. After all, Iowa fans spent last summer salivating over how fast David Barrent would be an all-american, and look how that turned out. Verbal committments in July are next to meaningless.

No, most spent last summer salivating over how fast Wegher and Davis were going to be all americans and look how that turned out.

People think that Iowa has a lot of problems, but when was the last time they got a "lack of institutional control" tag? Never. Until they get one, I'm not too worried. Since they're in your league, I would get on the jay hawk slant and start criticizing them about their problems instead.

Wrong again, Captain Incorrecto. You weren't salivating over Davis and Wegher in June because they hadn't even picked a school at that time.

Commit Dates to Iowa:

Barrent 5/3/08
Davis 8/3/08
Wegher 12/12/08

"Department penalties rank among the nation’s most stringent, Mims said. An athlete receiving a ticket for underage possession of alcohol must perform six to eight hours of alcohol education designed by the school’s social services program consultant, Marvin Sims. A second possession ticket or a first-offense alcohol arrest results in a first strike in a three-strike program. A first strike means the student-athlete must complete an alcohol education program, be put on notice and perform 20 hours of community service. A second strike means automatic suspension pending a full alcoholism assessment and 30 hours of community service."

That obviously is working, so congrats to the Hawks for having one of the most stringent programs.-

Wow. You don't even know what you are talking about.

Lack of institutional control is a NCAA charge which means the institution has no control over NCAA violations regarding recruiting and academics. The NCAA enforces NCAA regulations. They have nothing to do with enforcing state and federal law. That is the job of the police and the state's attorneys, and the Hawkeyes keep those folks plenty busy.

Well Monty since you are big on corrections you might want to make sure you don't make a mistake and make yourself look like an idiot. Try again on the commit date for Wegher.

Scout.com: Wegher Makes The Call

I realize they are August committs but last June Davis and Wegher were locks for Iowa and they just hadn't made it official until August.

You might want to stop arguing with a wall. Just trying to help.

Looks like they picked up another pretty good recruit yesterday. Kid out of Wisconsin who had offers from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota and even ISU. In all honesty, I really don't think these alcohol related issues have that big of an impact on recruiting. It may raise a few eyebrows, but at the end of the day I think it's more about the team's on-field success, history, player development, number of players in the NFL, coaching, community and academic opportunities.

It probably doesn't hurt in recruiting in the great state of Wisconsin, who have more bars per capita than any state in the U.S.:wideeyed:

After rethinking it, I do think the media attention hurts a little for sure, but sometimes that is all in how you spin it. I’m fairly confident I could put a positive slant on it right…. (insert one of my critics here……:wideeyed:) As the aforementioned pointed out, the out of state recruiting is probably hurt less and probably helps dispel the myth that we are "squares" with nothing to do. Also unless it is the "big stuff" as has been mentioned the fact that Iowa puts a lot of kids in the NFL should trump that.

Also winning right or wrong (mostly wrong when you get right down to it) and exposure is way more important to these kids than “troubleâ€￾. One can’t argue Iowa gets plenty of exposure when they are winning and the scouts are typically high on their kids in the right position groupings at least.

Chad

You guys can complain about this "problem" all you want. In the end, the opinions of only 2 groups matter - the NCAA and incoming recruits - and guess what, they don't care. If there was a problem, the NCAA would have stepped in and Iowa wouldn't be bringing in what looks to be one of their best classes ever. End of story.

Isn't the last "best recruting class ever at Iowa" a big part of what started this mess?

By the way, if this is no big deal how come all you hawk fans are camped out on this thread (and every other thread dealing with this topic)????

Says the guy who didn't have, or wasn't doing anything better at 730 on a Saturday morning.

That "last best recruiting class" just put 8 players into the NFL.

Cheesy, I know, but it was funny to me this fine sunday morning
