No Alcohol Problem with Hawks

Didnt want to start a new thread over it cause who knows how credible afew guys on a message board is, but over on HN there are rumblings about Reilly Reiff getting jumped at a bar this weekend. One guys said all football players are banned from downtown. Sadly it took one drunk ****** to get beatin up to make Kirk realize the bars are trouble, not a bunch of douches that get DUI's or assaults.

What does this mean………………………no police called, no charges just a rumor he got jumped. I can’t find anything on HR, even on the lounge board. I cancelled my subscription though so can only read headlines.

Do you know anything else. Not jerking your chain just curious.

1.) Comparing today's Iowa football program to the Miami Hurricanes of the 1980's is like comparing a serial murderer to a person who speeds. The Hurricanes of the 80's are widely regarded as one of the biggest "Thug U's" of all time. Sexual assaults, theft, and drug use were weekly occurrences in that program during that time, Iowa is no where close to where Miami was in the 80's, even if they had an alcohol related offense every day for the next 2 months. Horrible comparison.

2.) Ferentz's statement wasn't that we live in a hell hole, it was that we live in such a great environment (i.e. safe) that kids getting busted for alcohol is front page news because we don't have to worry about serious crimes like murders very often.

As much as it pains me to say guys, hawkfan is right about this one. Comparing the Miami of the 80s to the Iowa of the 2000s is way off to the point of being almost insulting...... Miami won three national titles in the 80s. Iowa fans can't even dream of being the next Miami! :biglaugh:

My brother is a soph at iowa, he lived on the same dorm floor as the losers that violated that women last year, forget the name. He's also chldhood friends with Julian Vandevelde, ill text him and ask. He even umps with the two Ferentz kids this summer.

The first thing i did was went over to HR too to see if anyone had said anything over there..

Im not trying to make a big deal of it, otherwise i wouldve started anew thread with all caps in it. Just interesting if true.

Yeah and I'm not in the least calling you out or wanting a source, I too am curious. 1st off he is one Big dude and although I'm an Iowa football fan the "underdog" lover in me is always interested in someone who is willing to tackle the Big guy. Unless of course it is 5 on 1, and even sometimes then.............I used to love a good brawl!

All kidding aside it is intriguing what might have happened, how it is so hush, hush, but still the coaches are aware and making policy.…………….

Agree with number 1, but moral equivalency is not a real solid defense.

No. 2 is open to interpretation. When I heard his quote, I detected a :jimlad: after the "great state" comment.

If all things are good at Iowa and it's no big deal having 33 players arrested then I don't see it being too long before they have a nice recruiting scandal like Colorado had. Alcohol, strippers, prostitutes are certainly all acceptable under the "stringent" rules at the U of I.

Hell... I bet the professor who was fondling his female students over at Thug U so they could get better grades was awarded for his ingenuity in the field of education.

Scout.com: Another arrest?

This. When one of his players has something bad happen to him because of the actions of a non hawk player suddenly it is a big issue worth talking about. Good ole Kirkie....... When will the guy take his head out of the sand?

Well boys since I dont drink and think that anyone who drinks is a dumbie...well I guess ALL HAWK FANS AND PLAYERS ARE DUMMIES:biglaugh:

Looks like they picked up another pretty good recruit yesterday. Kid out of Wisconsin who had offers from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota and even ISU. In all honesty, I really don't think these alcohol related issues have that big of an impact on recruiting. It may raise a few eyebrows, but at the end of the day I think it's more about the team's on-field success, history, player development, number of players in the NFL, coaching, community and academic opportunities.

High school kids like to party and drink. Maybe this is helping recruiting because they aren't worried if they get caught a couple times.
