No Alcohol Problem with Hawks

The consistent message in this piece, and in every response and action by the university and it's officials is this: "It's not a big deal, don't worry about it, we are not worried about it, it's not outside the norm." This is not the kind of message that would be coming out if the organization wanted the behavior to stop.

No, they want it stopped, they just want the public to ignore what is going on or treat it like it is no big deal, because this kind of thing goes on at every college, it really isn't that bad, a football player at XYZ university got arrested last night.....................:mask:

All the bad PR for the football team over the last two years is reaching the parents of potential recruits. And I would have to think that this is hurting them in recruiting battles.

The AD is now starting to figure out there is not a good solution to this problem, so they are trying to play another angle to make it not look as bad and to get the media off their back.

It did last year, but they have recruited pretty well so far this year

We are just a bunch of fanatical Cyclone Fans with nothing better to do than over-hype a situation at the University of Iowa which is clearly under control. :jimlad:

I work in a local high school... someone is selling a program that if you tell people you don't have a problem, you don't have a problem even if you do.

Looks like they picked up another pretty good recruit yesterday. Kid out of Wisconsin who had offers from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota and even ISU. In all honesty, I really don't think these alcohol related issues have that big of an impact on recruiting. It may raise a few eyebrows, but at the end of the day I think it's more about the team's on-field success, history, player development, number of players in the NFL, coaching, community and academic opportunities.

"Since Ferentz’s line of demarcation, the alcohol-related tickets and arrests have continued. Not counting sexual assault charges filed against two former football players for an October 2007 incident, 10 Iowa football players have been arrested or cited. All but one included an alcohol-related charge.":skeptical::no:

The seven verbal commitments Iowa has already received would beg to differ.

Not exactly... Iowa's recruiting class is absolutely stellar thus far, and it's not even July! They just landed a 3-star DE out of Wisconsin with offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana and ISU. Hoch is deciding between Iowa and Mizzou on Monday and 4-star Andrew Donnal is rumored to have Iowa in the lead as well.

Hoch has stated he is deciding on Monday? I hadn't heard that....exciting if true....I REALLY want him to become a hawk. If we can land Hoch and Scherff, I will be very excited about our in state class...as I predict Dawson is a near lock to become a Hawk. I've already written Derby off, so he'll just be gravy in my book if we can pull him.

I think Iowa gets Donnal as long as OSU doesn't offer....if OSU offers, Iowa's chances slip to about zero...word is that OSU was impressed with Donnal at a recent camp, and that he may be receiving an offer in the coming weeks...hopefully that doesn't materialize.

Also, I really like Iowa's chances with C.J. Fiedorowicz, his top 3 are Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. If Iowa has a big year, I think they pull C.J. as well, and he is an elite recruit.

There's only so much a coach can learn about a kid through 4-5 visits and a couple phone conversations. It's not like the Citi Boyz had criminal records before coming to Iowa. By all accounts they sounded like great kids coming in and showed their true colors once they signed the dotted line.

If anything, this shows that the only people who care about kids drinking in Iowa City are the Cyclone fans. Recruits really don't care what a couple knuckleheads did a couple years ago.

If this is true, then I think it's a little sad. Yes, I am judging, but don't Hawk fans want this to end? Not trying to be a d-bag, but asking an honest question. And if the answer is yes, then why not voice your opinion to apply pressure to the staff, AD, and University?

Some do, but most don't care. They usually bring it back to their January bowl game, because that excuses everything.

Sure, the national media picks up on it, spends some time on it, but that's only because they're Cyclone fans at heart.

Things like sexual assault and CC fraud need to stop, and I believe they have. But I'm not going to get bent out of shape about college students getting busted for drinking. It happened to me at ISU, it happens everywhere.
