I've said this in the past, and I will say it again. We already have some great logos we just need to use them.

We also have some great designs people have made. Personally I think that these are great because they give us so many options with 4 sets. You could also just cut the grey one and still be awesome.

Yea, that's more what I was thinking. Probably keep the old logo text off and just have the block tornado. People complain about that logo being associated with Walden, but I think that would be subtle enough to just be a cool uniform detail without really "bringing back" the old logo.

you aren't wrong some schools do, but like USC updated their helmet and they have chrome face masks, all I'm asking for is Cardinal or gold face masks. I just feel like the grey sticks out more and looks ugly.
USC didn't use the chrome ones in the last couple games. Cardinal or gold facemasks on on a cardinal helmet with our color scheme would end up looking tacky IMO. Now cardinal facemasks on a white alternate helmet would look sharp.

I'm not trying to be a ****, but I have never noticed the color of our facemasks. Maybe that's bad or maybe its good.

I've lived in every corner of this country and our branding is not working. When I wear my I-State gear the most common thing I get is "oh you went to Illinois State? " and when I lived on the west coast "oh you went to Idaho state? "

And these are people that know sports. The reality is when you're out of big 12 country our logo isn't a national brand because Iowa isn't nationally recognized "I" doesn't cut it.

To me, that there is the most apparent logic that our I-State branding effort is a failure. I could personally go either way on the logo, this isn't my personal opinion. It's fact that people have no idea what it is.

If the people don't recognize the logo, it's either because:

a) they don't know jack about college sports (most people in metro areas only follow pro sports)
b) ISU hasn't had enough success to get the branding out there to be known

Usually it's both. Neither suggests changing the I-State logo is a good thing. It would only make things more confusing.

I would love to see us use white helmets with I State and an alternate helmet with an updated cyclone logo. Cyclonefanatic came up with one so I would think the athletic department could as well.

I will never understand why people want our logo to be a bird when we are the Cyclones. I get wanting to have a mascot, but it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm partial to the blue facemask on my helmet sitting in my trophy case.

I seriously will never get why people want to rehash probably the worst era of ISU football ever with this identity.
Its a good logo? Its simple and to the point.[/QUOTE]

The tornado logo would look very retro in today's world. It would look old and kind of like a USFL game from 30 years ago

As an aside, I was watching Fox Sports special on the championship selection. Couldn't take much of it, but Brady Quinn out of nowhere calls Iowa the most boring place ever. I mean, more boring than Kansas, or Oklahoma? Come on.

The national perception of the state is boring and nothing there, and it is just not true comparing to Nebraska or a number of other states. And just because they are in the SEC Arkansas is some bastion of excitement? Give me a break.

i'd like to see us get away from the boring mold that Iowa has or Nebraska for that matter.

I have never, and can't recall anyone I know, refer verbally to Iowa State as "I-State" but perhaps it's a generational thing. I don't even call it ISU unless I'm typing and even that seems a little odd (such as in a status or tweet when I try to keep it short) In some states you either go to "XYZ" or you go to "State" and that seems odd too. People ask where I went to school and it's "Iowa State" and I've rarely heard it called anything else.

Evidently a generational thing then, as lots of us referred to our school as I-State back in the '70s and on.
