NDSU @ Iowa State, Its About Tradition

"I think the challenges are you inherit a program that has no tradition"

- ISU Head Coach Paul Rhoads

At least he's honest and realistic. Just another reason I think he will have ISU above .500 and bowling after a couple of seasons. I good Head Coach doesn't BS and sugar coat things.

Does anyone else hate back-handed compliments as much as I do?

College football is about tradition. Both of these schools have strong, vibrant histories going back to the beginning of the movement west.

During that time NDSU has established itself as a proud athletic program, on top of its own competition and able to compete with the larger universities like Iowa State.

The BISON are famous for the upset including University of Montana, University of California Davis, Cal-Poly, Minnesota, Ball State and Central Michigan. NDSU is considered one of the top programs in the FCS. UNI is in our conference.

Im not familiar with the Iowa State University traditions in football. I just know what I see, a push over in The Big 12. A 2-10 team. Still, Big 12, Major university, lots more scholarships, bigger program.

What are the ISU traditions that help you prevail when the chips are down and Jack Trice is trembling?
aaahrrg……. :eek:Sorry I just threw up a bit in my mouth after reading your post. That maybe the most uniformed stupid thing ever spewed from a person’s mouth. You and your family should feel embarrassed that you posted that. I’ve already wasted too much time on this topic, got to go use the mouthwash. See you guys on the field.

I can see you are determined to win.

I know this: The NDSU BISON are determined to win. The BISON are not confusing ISU with any team. NDSU is preparing for the Cyclones. Everyone here hopes you are still preparing for SDSU.

UNI must have been 2 yrs ago? They are in our league you know?

Wrong again. NDSU is in UNI's conference. NDSU is not even close to being in UNI's "league". UNI is one of the top dogs in the FCS division and has been for years. On the other hand NDSU has not.

I am sure NDSU has some tradition from their 8 titles but that was playing Division II. I am confident that you are aware that Division II football is not even close to the level of play we play at week to week in the Big XII conference. It is easy for you to dismiss ISU simply based on record alone which is a huge mistake. ISU will have a decisive size advantage at the line of scrimmage, ISU will have better athletes overall and more of them, and from the sounds of it NDSU lost some significant talent on both sides of the ball to graduation as well as suspensions.

Look at this from an ISU fan's perspective....

NDSU has won 8 national titles at a far lower level of competition then we play at and those are several years removed from the present. NDSU also just stepped up to the FCS level and struggled to a 6-5 record. I keep hearing about this bison pride and tradition but I can't help but not be impressed based on your results.

I had hoped for more. Can ISU beat the Gophers?

Yes.

Can you tell me where this is around campus?

I still don't think he has explained how a team that went 6-5 in their first year in the MVC is one of the top programs in the FCS.

Did your team overlook Richmond?

No, they pulled out a triple reverse throwback play to end the game since their kicker had been choking all throughout the playoffs. Farley is a good coach, but that call to end the game...I threw up in the stands while watching it.

A passing attack like Herman's (OC) requires that you get to the QB in less than 1.7 seconds (that's how long it takes him to release). You can't do that with no offensive line in front of you. Second, your corners, in order to succeed, will need to tackle well. It's YACs that add up to yardage not the distance to the reception. Don't forget, if we choose to, we can line up in the "I" and ram it right down your throat. I mean no disrespect (a 2-10 team has no business not respecting everyone), but the match-ups are really not that good for you when you are on defense. On offense, we have a defense that is suspect until proven. Here, YOU may be able to get some yards in the "I" formation. I really don't know. I am anxious to find out about our defense. I really think, though, if you can move the ball, we will outscore you. If you have trouble moving the ball, it's all over.

What I know you can look forward to is one of the absolute best tailgates on the planet. The Cyclones are a very friendly home crowd, so walk around and get to know us. Have a great time in Ames. Thanks for coming.

LAKES IS COMIN IN OFF HIS BOAT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING.

IF NDSU FORGETS ABOUT LAST YEAR AND PLAYS, WE ARE COMPETITIVE.

D2 IS SO FAR AWAY FOR ME I DONT GIVE A CRAP!!

LETS PLAY AND SMACK TALK DURING AND AFTER!!

GO BISON!

I REALLY hope we become respected someday so we quit getting trashed by these nobody school morons...

Not that Iowa State is much tradition-wise, but for gods sake we're better than ANYTHING from North Dakota

Totally agree with you. Sad thing.. They don't get the hint that nobody cares...

I hope after we destroy them, they completely fall off the face of the earth.

Exactly what I think.. Outside chance of bowling this year though...

Oh we'll destroy them. We destroyed SDSU last year with two unproven QBs sharing time and with one of our worst teams in school history. Now we have a QB who had one of the best seasons for a QB in school history, three running backs who can play, a proven bunch of receivers, and one of the best special teams units in the Big 12. And I don't think our defense will have much problem with them.

THANK YOU FOR COMING IN FROM THE BOAT TO SHARE THIS WISDOM. YOUR SACRIFICE IS INSPIRATIONAL, AND ALL OF US ARE BETTER FOR IT. :jimlad:

The teams match up well. There isnt a statistical category where the opponents didnt do better than ISU. 2 things of note: ISU had 14 more plays/game than NDSU last year and 5 more first downs/game. Significant advantages and something The BISON will have to overcome.

I would have to say that in this situation its not the NDSU fans that are arrogant. There is nothing wrong with thinking your team is going to win, even if its th 2=10 Cyclones.

What is arrogant is thinking you cant lose, especially whey you are the Cyclones.

A 2-10 Big 12 team is no more formidable than a 1-10 Big 10 team. The Gophers packed it in after the NDSU loss. I imagine if NDSU beats ISU the Cyclones will go 0-11? I also understand that you, the collective fan base of ISU, has this one in the win column and are at least hoping for a 1-10 season.
