Not so fast. How can you know that??? When a player screws up for this staff, I think there is a very long trust building process that the player must handle properly. He is accountable to over 100 people involved with the program, from Campbell to the grad assistant. MY OPINION.

Good to hear...All I've heard for years and years was how incredible this strength staff was under CPR yet each year and each class got progressively worse endurance wise, injury wise, strength wise, and on the field wise. Maybe part of that is just a diff in talent but that's why u hear CMC talk about recruiting and developing the right type of kids...kids who may not always be the most talented but will work their *** off all year to just be able to contribute.
It's either going to work, or it's going to fail miserably. But I'm glad he's doing it.
I'd rather win 2 or 3 games a year with good kids than with bad kids or kids that don't want to put forth the effort needed to be good.
I like CMC and I think he'll get it done here. This coming year might not be quite what some people expect it to be, but JP and us fans had to know when we changed head coaches that there might be some growing pains. It's not going to show up immediately.
Outside of about 10 players (Lazard, Warren, Campos, Lanning, Tucker, Cotton-Moya, Peavy, etc) I don't see anyone that we can't live without on this roster. Sure, that might sound harsh, but it's not like we've seen much success at all lately. If guys aren't mature enough to buy in, then don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Do you want to be a winner? That's the question. If you were happy winning 2 or 3 games a year and don't want to put in the work necessary to be a winner, then see ya.
Also, it will show what guys on the team are playing for the name on the front of the jersey versus who is playing for the name on the back of the jersey. If you are a true Cyclone, like Levi Peters, then you will stay and try to get better because you love Iowa State University. But if you care only about yourself and not the school, you should probably just go someplace else.
Unluckily for Toledo, my son graduated the year before so no true hb was available. HAHA. ANyway, that was one game and my overall view the last 3-4 years is that they were very effective running in short yardage situations. It will come down to available personnel.
One thing I can be sure of is that Campbell will not air out a players dirty laundry in public. I never heard a policy, but we were close to some of the players and there was no doubt in my mind from hearing guys talk that things [issues] were handed in a fair, BUT FIRM manner. Campbell had a player leadership committee that he met with on a regular basis at Toledo. If someone was screwing up it seemed to me that this group of players was as tough or even more tough on the offending player than Campbell was. Nothing better than team leadership.
Exactly. I was never really super impressed with Thomas. He had his moments, but he also failed to hit the right hole several times. The fact that he was a freshman was encouraging, but we have seen a lot of FB players that were never better than their freshman year.
Montgomery was a stud or a flop. He was a guy that either showed up and played well or dropped passes like a 4th string TE.
I don't like the idea of a lot of departures, but it will be what it will be. I am willing to bet it will be only 3-4 more guys then left last year when CPR cleaned house.

Every player competes every friggin day. Every team competes every friggin game. Next year is NOT important. The culture and the commitment is the ONLY important thing at this stage.

Mediocrity is a bottom level bowl game since half of the D1 schools now make bowl games...

Happy with three wins again? That would be terrible for recruiting. New coach, same product.
Guaranteed CMC and staff do care about their players, but right now it's about weeding out the ones that don't really want to be here, or don't want to work harder for it. After that they can get down to business and treat the players a little more like family.
Where's our one Toledo guy when we need him...stick to the Plan, the Plan will get us there.
I disagree. Next year is very important. If they go 4-8, that isn't the end of the world, but if they go 7-5, that launches recruiting into another stratosphere.
Tell that to Tennessee last year. I'm not saying we're UT, but they competed in the SEC and with OU for most of the game with a lot of their starters being Soph and Frosh.
Assume you're aware Tennessee had back-to-back top 5 recruiting classes, correct?
What part of "I'm not saying ISU is UT" didn't you comprehend? You do realize that teams sometimes have to compete using young players...it's part of it.
Oh and for the "back-to-back" top 5 recruiting classes" comment...they were in the game until the end against OU and played lights out against most of the SEC who also have top 10 recruiting classes year after year...so that argument doesn't fly.
Once again...I wasn't saying we are UT or anything like it...saying that teams have to do what they have to do.
Just because a team is young, doesn't necesarily mean they can't at least compete.
