*** Monte Morris NBA Analysis/Assumptions ***

Monte is talented, great handle, court vision, can finish for his size, can shoot well, can facilitate. He will go pro and do well IMO.

I usually go to 3 Bulls games a year. And a few Iowa energy games. Monte all ready gets chewed up when he tries to drive to the hole. IMO he is no where close to being ready to step on the court with those athletes. He would get eaten alive.

i watch 5 Spurs games a year, 3 Phoenix games, and know the energy exist. So that apparently makes me an expert too

i don't know what you are watching but Monte dominated most players he played against and held his own against the rest.

I have s feeling there are people on here who don know how good he is.

Okay guys, pack it up. The expert has spoken.

Not doing any research, what Iowa State men's basketball player had the longest tenure in the NBA?

A blind assumption:

1.) Jeff Hornacek
2.) Fred Hoiberg
3.) Calvin Cato
4.) Jamal Tinsley

Can anyone validate if true?

Statistic gurus..

I do think Monte Morris will have a long career in the NBA.

Monte is working hard this off season. He's doing four workouts a day according to Hines.http://m.amestrib.com/sports/men-s-basketball-past-and-future-fuel-morris-offseason

Here's a list of Iow State players who have played in the NBA. Sorting by games played the list would be:
1. Hornacek
2. Tinsley
3. Cato
4. Hoiberg

It is an interesting statistic. There is no doubt Jeff Hornacek is the longest tenured NBA player who played college ball for the Cyclones. After that, it becomes a little murky. If you count the NBDL time Jamal Tinsley spent with the Los Angeles Defenders for two seasons and run it concurrent with his career in the NBA, it would give him roughly 12 seasons. If not you could throw him in the lot of Hoiberg and Cato with spending 10 years in the NBA respectively. It's hard to believe Calvin Cato spent that many years in the Association. Big men have a tendency to stick longer in the association it seems. Sam Mack also had a decent run in the NBA as well.

I like this stat also. It's a Sunday, won't give you to bad a time. It's Kelvin Cato. :swoon: I forgot Cato was the 15th pick overall.

Monte is 90% ready for the NBA. He is a great team leader, makes good decisions, strong defender and makes his teammates better. He will get bigger/stronger with maturity and time in the weight room. How high he goes in the draft will all be based on how well he hits his jump shots next year.

We tend to want to picture him being on par with a current NBA starting PG, the reality he just needs to be good enough to be the backup PG for some team.

Monte was great last year. If he progresses even a little bit from last year, I'll take it. But at the same time it's hard to progress from how good he was last year. I'll be keeping a real close eye on him this season.

Monte has already been showing he can take over games.

I give you exhibit A:

It was interesting to see how often Miles Turner was beaten in that game!

We here does he project? There are a lot of great players who don't get drafted. The NBA still drafts of potential, and to save money, draft a lot of Europeans who may never sniff the NBA. Leaves very few spots for non lottery upperclassmen. I thought Kane and Egim would have been drafted. In my mind Morris and Niang should be drafted, but that doesn't mean they will.

Just over 50% of McDonald All-Americans get drafted by the NBA. That drops down into the 30% range for NBA 1st round picks. Unless your a 1st round pick you might as well come back because your not getting an NBA contract unless you make a roster, which is rare. If you leave school early as a 2nd round pick your going to end up in the D-League or in Europe, if your lucky. You look at a guy like Bobby Hansen who was drafted in the 3rd round of the NBA draft in 1983 and played 10 years. (They had 10 rounds back then) If he was coming out of college today he wouldn't of been drafted and no D-league.
