Michigan State vs. Iowa

My point was none of you expected to be here, and you're just happy you got that far. The future is also rather bright.

Agreed. Is it that big a stretch to think Iowa will be back in Indianapolis next year? It's not as if the West division is getting any better.

I think some of you think that Iowa fans are jumping off bridges after this loss. I have quite a few Hawk friends, and I don't think any of them are upset after last night. I compare it to how Cub fans felt after getting swept by the Mets...

WHYYYYYY :( Oh God, it still hurts.

Iowa easily has the softest schedule in the West next year, Minnesota maybe a distant second.

They really didn't even get gashed. Iowa consistently had players in position to make plays. I lost count of how many times Scott was met at the LOS by one or more defenders, and he would somehow pick up an extra couple yards, usually for a first down. They never got chunks, just a lot of those kinds of plays that added up (hence why it took 22 plays).
This. There were what, four, 3rd down conversions, and the 4th down? The 3rd down shovel pass to the te was huge, then the other 3rd down conversions were running players, and it wasn't like they were needing just 1 yard, it was 3 or 4.

Honestly, Michigan St was doing to Iowa, what Iowa does to Iowa St when Iowa St is needing a stop to get the ball back.

serious question and too lazy to look it up this AM.

Power players in the BIG (outside of Iowa)

OSU, Mich, MichS.

Used to be tough NU and WI.

Iowa sits at #4 in the first list. But how many times has KF played OSU and Mich compared to the 8 times he has played MSU over his 16 years?

I guess the better question is how many times has he played each of the conference opponents since 1999?

I wasn't cheering for Iowa yet I was yelling at my TV for them to let Michigan State walk into the endzone at the 2 minute mark when they were on the 2 yard line. Because it seemed like the right move.

I don't get why coaches never do this. It's the same story every time: the team WILL score with their 4 chances, and you'll lose some to all of the time you could have had to score.

Let MSU walk in, and you have two minutes to grab a field goal and head to OT, or even hope for a break out play to win the game outright. Yes, there's a chance you stop them for four downs or they fumble, but would you put those odds above, say, 10%? Their defense was strong most of the game, but was clearly gassed at the end.
Problem is Hawks made one offensive play the entire second half. No I wouldn't let them score in that situation. If Iowa had scored every possession second half it would be a different situation.

I'm too lazy to look up the first few years of the Ferentz era, but Iowa played OSU from 2003-2006 and 2009-10. They played UM 2002-2006, then 2009-2013.

7-7 vs msu
6-5 vs Michigan
1-8 vs Ohio state

Looked at their 2016 schedule, they don't have to play OSU or MSU next year either.

Gonna have to plug my nose and cheer on lakes' team too.

Just think they have 9 months of listening to that insufferable *****, epic.

Iowa's schedule next year:

Miami (OH)
Iowa State
North Dakota State
@ Rutgers
Northwestern
@ Minnesota
@ Purdue
Wisconsin
@ Penn State
Michigan
@ Illinois
Nebraska

B1G East teams they miss: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Ohio State

They will be back in Indy, not much of a doubt about it.

Last night's game was not like the NLCS. It was more like a Game 7 of the NLCS in a pitcher's duel with teams scraping a few runs here and there until Iowa finally gets a two run lead going into the 9th inning... and which point MSU grinds out some infield hits and line drive singles after long at-bats over, and over, and over again to win it 4-3 or so.

I wasn't comparing the events, but the feelings of the fans after the events. Cub fans were not distraught after losing, and I don't see where Hawk fans are either.

I have them going 10-2 next year L to Michigan and @Penn State. I don't care if they make it back to indy, I just don't want them to go the playoff.

Very easy schedule. Their toughest big 10 games are all at home, northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. At Penn St is the only remotely difficult road game.

Basically Iowa took advantage of the easy schedule in a major way that ISU never could under Mac when Texas/OU rotated off our schedule. Kudos for doing it, but I'd hope bagging on "weak Big 12 north" from the Iowa fans on this board is over forever now, as if it wasn't already many years in the rearview mirror.

I'd say with CJB being back and not seeing a lot of room for optimism from Nebraska and Wisc that Iowa should be a very heavy fav to win the B10W.

Maybe this inexplicable anomaly will vaporize and they'll go 7-5 against that schedule like usual next year.

#TheNarrative is now becoming that the B1G is the best conference this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Colin Cowherd pick up that mantle now to p**s off 14 fanbases at once in the SEC.
