Michigan State vs. Iowa

Iowa did a good job keeping things in control despite getting outworked in the 2nd half. In the early 3rd qtr, I thought the run defense was nearing trouble as they were starting to give up too many yards on the ground. MSU didn't pop off any big runs, but there were a slew of phone booth runs that kept resulting in 3-5 yard carries....over and over. Despite that, Iowa managed to somehow keep control, despite the offense sputtering...until the bomb.

Entertaining game, and the low scoring 1st half was fine by me. That favored Iowa early, but ultimately MSU late.

How long will we hear about this championship game? What if, what if? The Hok fans will be hitting the taverns heavily.

Iowa had a great season, they have a great run defense and their offense improved a lot this year. Beathard is a very good QB. The thing that really stands out to me is that they could play 13 games and face so many marginal/bad/injured QBs. There are only a handful of good QBs in the Big 10, and Beathard is one of them. The guy from IN is pretty good, and Cook is good when health, which he clearly was not last night. I am talking about QBs that can actually throw the ball here. There are some great running QBs in the Big 10.

How about Iowa and Ohio St in the Rose.... And settle it?

Second half TOP

MSU: 22:54
Iowa: 7:06

It was nothing short of amazing that the defense held up as well as it did down the stretch.

Interested to see who the committee says is better between Iowa and Ohio State today.

agwinst a one dimensional team. They still played great, but that MSU offense wasn't dynamic.

Far be it from me to say something nice about the Hawkeyes, but I was impressed by their run defense's development through the season. They were good at the beginning of the year, but outright salty toward the end. It had to be hard for Hawk fans to watch them, totally gassed, get gashed on run plays 21 out of 22 plays to end the game. :jimlad:

Are there a lot of Iowa State fans talking smack on your board?

I just don't understand why you would waste your time in such an exciting season arguing with Iowa State fans. Do you really expect all of us to be super excited for you?

Absolutely this. Someone clearly doesn't have anything better to do with their time than hang out on their rival's message board and argue (recent) history, minute details, and personal opinions with said rival's fans. It's fairly amusing.

They really didn't even get gashed. Iowa consistently had players in position to make plays. I lost count of how many times Scott was met at the LOS by one or more defenders, and he would somehow pick up an extra couple yards, usually for a first down. They never got chunks, just a lot of those kinds of plays that added up (hence why it took 22 plays).

I think some of you think that Iowa fans are jumping off bridges after this loss. I have quite a few Hawk friends, and I don't think any of them are upset after last night. I compare it to how Cub fans felt after getting swept by the Mets...

I think it's a little worse than that. Getting swept is kind of like the frog in boiling water. Lose the first game or two, and you haven't lost it yet because there are still potentially 5 games left to play. Lose the third, and you've already resigned yourself to losing.

This was a lot more sudden than that.

My point was none of you expected to be here, and you're just happy you got that far. The future is also rather bright.

Last night's game was not like the NLCS. It was more like a Game 7 of the NLCS in a pitcher's duel with teams scraping a few runs here and there until Iowa finally gets a two run lead going into the 9th inning... and which point MSU grinds out some infield hits and line drive singles after long at-bats over, and over, and over again to win it 4-3 or so.
