Messingham needs to go!

"needed" to go. past tense.
Too late now. Rhoads may very well go 0-12 or whatever this year. He will shake up staff, announce the triple option is coming back, and figure out how to maximize his contract termination terms. I have ZERO sympathy for this Coaching staff or the Administration at this point. I DO have sympathy for the players and the families and the long term Cyclone fans who have to suffer through another cycle of years of losing and hope for the next coaching buzz. I have lost all faith if these guys cannot see the obvious about this offense and the utter failure it is.

Just so I am clear... After two bad games, you are giving up on a coach who took us to 3 bowl games in 4 years? And has one of our three bowl wins in school history? After two bad games?

I get disappointment but come on.

Dafuq? Mess didn't take us to 3 bowl games! Where do you get that from? We went to Liberty under Mess and got beaten soundly with an awful O.

If you think Messingham is the only problem you are either ignorant or blind. The offensive coordinator is not responsible for averaging 2 yards a carry and throwing 2 interceptions. Sure the play calling isn't the best, but we did win 6 games with him calling plays last year. The O-Line has got to get better and open up holes for the running backs. Richardson was mediocre up until the last 5 minutes when Iowa's defense was playing soft coverage. The interception before half was absolutely unacceptable. There was a point in the game in the 3rd quarter where we were one bad play by Richardson from seeing Rohach get a shot. And forgot to mention the run defense was awful.

No ifs, ands or buts about it. He must be fired immediately. No waiting for season's end. The ineptness in play calling today was inexcusable.

I am not giving up on Rhoads.....but has he given up on us? Why did he not make any changes after the Liberty Bowl? It is not two bad games.....it is many, many bad games. The Iowa win last year was a bad game we just got **** lucky to win. The Pinstripe bowl was an embarrasment. What is the Big 12 record again? There have been a lot of bad games--hell, I am used to that as a Cyclone.
A coach has a certain window of opportunity. After 5 years you are 0-12.....What are we even debating about????!?!?!?!? MacCarney had a window of opportunity.....and did well and I will forever be a Mac fan....but then Seneca in a Toga and Marty Fine happened. McCArney had a surprising resurgence with the Bret Meyer years that was nice. But we were condemned to mediocrity with get those crucial wins....and never would have.

I don't see how Messingham is the only one responsible for this mess. Nobody on the entire offensive side showed up, and I'm no longer convinced that it matters if they do.

Congrats to Bundrage for some big plays when Iowa was calling off the dogs. At least we can think you're decent, but that still isn't good enough.

Wha? When every person knows what play is coming its pretty easy to keep the RB to 2 yds per carry, unless it's our D. But to go for it on 4th & 4 in the 2nd from the 32, down by 7?!?!! Which swung to give them another 3?!??? He's gotta go.

Feel bad to say, but Mess to Rhoads is Wayne Bolt to Chizik.
Yet Wayne Bolt had more of a resume & experience than Mess.
That is all.

Is that Rhoads' call to go for it or Messingham's? I also thought we should have kicked the FG, especially since our offense was gifted with great field position and couldn't even get a first down.

This outcome was easily seen on the first offensive drive ISU had against UNI. Mess needs to go as offensive coordinator or else this team and this program are going to suffer. Not taking anything from Iowa. Both teams have a hell of a lot of room for improvement, but Iowa was steps ahead week one. Good game, deserves to be a Hawkeye state; go Cyclones.

Look, I agree with firing Mess. If you are going to do it, now is the time. We have 12 days to break in new play-caller.

But if you look objectively, our FB program is as good (big picture) as it has ever been. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Replacing Rhoads sets us back.

If Mess finishes the year and our O doesn't improve and Rhoads let's him come back next year, I will be HUGELY disappointed. But what do you think is the ceiling of this program?
