Matt Thomas predictions

Huge game. Interesting that he got his first two baskets off the dribble (one was still a 3). He did get a couple catch and shoot baskets, though. He also had at least one tough rebound late in the game.

He seems to play more relaxed on the road. I thought he played really well at Okie State in some different aspects of the game than today.

Now it's one game.....so lets not get the "See I told you so" trains going....or that's he's arrived.

but by god that was great to see...and we needed it. He keyed that separation almost single handily. Looked confident, looked aggressive. Couldn't be happier for the kid.....have a beer...errr....I mean diet coke on me kid.
Dude, your name is Matty Ice. You should be leading the hype train!

He looks more comfortable off the dribble. Really nice floater in the lane when it happens. Had a couple shots that looked awfully close and relaxed.

Seems like if he's in more of a 'go-to' role where he's really controlling things, he looks way more comfortable. I thought he was really good against the press too.

Agree with all of this

Agreed. Liked it when instead of tossing it to Monte he just took it over the line himself quickly with confidence. I think he also recognized when he was the mismatch for their defense.

nice game outta him. I have no problem with the highs. He just has to work to avoid the big lows. A little better consistency and he goes from a space filler to a major role player. So basically don't disappear for the next four games. I'm not saying he has to average double figures...just hit a few open shots a game, continue to rebound well, don't turn the ball over and don't get lost on D. Following this up with a couple 6 point 4 rebound type games would be huge.

I agree. In HS, Matt rarely shot off the catch. He was almost always creating his own shot. He needs more of that. I doubt he'll ever be a Scottie type player where we set two screens for him and let him run around until he's open, then launch a three. He's also pretty deadly with his mid-range pull-up J's, which is huge and gives his game so much more balance.

I think Matt has rebounded well most of the year. In that interview when Georges talked about what a great coach Matt would be I think he was onto something. Matt seems to anticipate well where the miss is going to go off the rim or board. Sure, not huge total numbers but I am guessing per minute played, it holds up pretty well.

He was playing full speed. No hesitations or doubt. He definitely needs to use his drive more often because he's pretty good at the floater, and as someone mentioned, it was his go-to shot in high school.

The problem is he only gets about 2 shots a game and if they don't go in he sits for whoever has the hot hand. This game he had the hot hand and Nader sat. This game his first shot bounced in and not out, so hoiberg kept him in. He doesn't get 5 shots to find a rhythm. He either starts the game in rhythm, or sits.

Yep. Agreed.

no nitpicking his game today. Kid has taken a lot of guff from fans, myself included....maybe too harshly...maybe not harshly enough....but he's earned all the kudos and good vibes, and atta boys today. Kid was on fire.

and we absolutely need him in the tournament....he could be massive in the big dance if he can produce what he did today. Which...he should be able to do.

Loved how happy his teammates were for Matt. Every single guy went and high fived him and said something complimentary to him after he hit those first couple of threes. The team knows that Matt's numbers simply have not done justice to his ability

Matt played great today, if we get 20 points of the trio of Thomas, BDJ and Nader, we are really tough to beat. 25 or more, like today and you're talking almost unbeatable.

He also had some good rebounds and box outs. Got burned on D a couple times though. But this was probably his best game of his career. This is what we all hoped for with Matt. I really hope he can keep this up. It just takes our team to a new level if we have 8 solid guys and another 3 point threat.

This is kind of a weird comparison, but I could see Matt being a Harrison Barnes type of player. Harrison is certainly not the best scorer for Golden State but he can hit shots and create for himself when needed. He came up big in the playoffs his rookie season because they needed that. Hopefully Matt can play score 8-15 ppg down the stretch here.

This got really dumb. Anybody who thinks Matt Thomas has not been a disappointment is out of their mind. Fred called him the best shooter in that class multiple times. Hopefully by his senior year he can knock down his 3's consistently, but right now I would not be giving him more than 5 mins a game. When he shoots and misses he kills our momentum.

Guess Fred understands shooter slumps and you need to keep playing guys and let them work through it
