Martinez

I think people are underestimating his arm. He is not a great passer, and is clearly a better runner than a passer. But in the several games I've seen, he throws an extremely accurate deep ball. We've seen in a few games our DB's get beat deep but the throws were off. I think this could be the biggest key for tomorrows game. If we can limit Martinez to just running that will be huge.
I don't underestimate his arm but I would rather take my chances with him throwing than him running. Nebraska's receivers are okay but nothing special and have shown the ability to drop the ball.

I look at it this way
Don't stop him running the ball and he WILL hurt you.
Don't stop him passing the ball and he MIGHT hurt you.

Either way, I don't like this game. It is just a very bad match up for us.

He will play.... We better have a plan in place to stop him and Helu or our score will look as bad as KSU and Mizzou's did. They scored 51 on OSU for goodness sake. The Nubs will be throwing everything at us and I hope we can stay close enough to have a chance at the end.
He was downgraded yesterday from starter to game-time decision. I honestly dont think he takes a snap.

doesn't matter...you gameplan for him and then adjust to Lee if you need to. If Lee plays then instead of hitting Mrtinez on every play, you hit Helu

How I would like to see us stop him is to have our 3 starting LBers be Klien, Knott & Taufoou & then also bring Sims up into the box, so we have 8 in there. Taufoou is solid against the run but if it comes to a probably passing down bring in Benton as the Nickel and slide Klien over to MLB. Also, send as many blitzes as we can and disguise them the best that we can. Get in his head and confuse him will be the way to stop him.

I agree, but Pelini might be playing his cards here. You wonder first off if he is providing the correct injury for Martinez as they thought it was first a bone bruise. Then all of a sudden its a sprain? Big difference. So Rhoads spends the whole week planning for Martinez and he doesnt see the field. We need to be ready for both. Lots of NU fans and people from Omaha dont think Martinez will play at all.

I also don't really understand how they are calling it an ankle sprain. If he was injured on the play I'm thinking of, he was absolutely drilled in the side of his leg. That would make sense with a deep bone bruise, but not an ankle sprain. Regardless, as much as I would love it if he doesn't play, I'm not getting my hopes up.

What's been fun about watching TMart this year is that IMO, he's developing into a true dual threat QB.

In the Texas game 3 weeks ago, Texas stuffed the LOS and dared TMart to throw, which he did. His passing numbers would've been off the chart if not for the dropped passes and then comes back the following week at Okie St. with 5 TD passes and 435 yards of total offense, 300+ via the air.

I honestly don't know if TMart will play or not tomorrow, you guys know as much as I do on the situation. However, if TMart is unable to go, i've got complete faith in Zac Lee. Yes, Zac is not the runner that TMart is, but there's plenty of other weapons on that offense besides just Helu, not to mention the OLine is really really becoming a solid unit. In addition to being on the road in a hostile environment, Zac will bring leadership and calmness to the huddle.

He's playing. This is a big game for them this weekend and they are not taking us lightly. They want revenge and will do everything to win this ball game and take control of the North. They must be very aware of what we are capable of, thus I think he is going to start the game and be ready to go.

As for the Clones. We need to keep our poise on defense and convert many first downs on offense to keep their "O" off the field. It's a big game....but can't be too jacked up for it....just keep our composure and play spirited team ball once again.

Also, on our D....if we force a very early fumble or pick.... they will start to think about '09 all over again right away.... and I feel that would garner us some HUGE momentum early on. Then, if that happens.... the O NEEDs to put points on the board to make it hurt. But make no mistake, this is a huge game....one in which our Cyclones need to play outstanding....and have a few breaks go our way to get a win.

Go Cyclones! Fight!

And a career 0-1 record against the Cyclones!

I actually think you might be right on this one. He went from a bone bruise to a sprained ankle to a "will play" to a questionable in about 48 hours.

I don't think anybody knew Tiller was going to start last year at Nebraska. CPR played his cards last year and I think we see Pelini doing the same thing this year. My money is on Lee starting and Martinez used if there is an emergency.

I have no inside information, just a hunch.

I'm listening to the Husker Tailgate show on 1620thezone.com out of Omaha, and they just predicted that Taylor Martinez will not be starting tomorrow. The guys in their round table think it'll be Cody Green instead. They don't think Roy Helu will get 20 carries either. They're saying it will be more of a running back by committee approach.

Today's a fun day to be working in Omaha. I can rub in the 9-7 ISU victory for one more day. I'm hoping and praying that tomorrow is a good day for the good guys so I can hold onto bragging rights forever more.

Amen! IMO we'd be much better off if Green plays. Lee's athleticism is very under rated, he is just as good a threat running as green and a better passer. Either way we're lucky if Martinez sits.
