Fanatics, how do we stop him? I know we can, and I know that we can win this game. But this kid has some scary talent.

I have no idea how you stop this guy, but he is a true freshman and not that great of a passer, so it must be possible.

Does anyone know how fast Martinez is? Is it something where we can just take him on the option and leave everything up to Helu? it seems as if he is alot faster than Helu. Maybe I am wrong though.

I think he'll be hurting during our game or be out. He'll still be effective but not super effective.

Defense has to take good pursuit angles, gang tackle and keep him from open field opportunities. Plus I think if we get some good shots on him, that he'll crack.

This. Also keeping him on the sideline with our offense sustaining long drives will help.

Texas had a strategy were they actually used 2 spies on him, it completely cut off his ability to take off and run for a big gain. The trade off was that using 2 guys from their LBs and DBs almost every play meant that we had someone open on almost every pass we had, but a combination of bad throws and drops made that irrelevant. OSU tried the same strategy next week and this time Martinez made the throws and our WRs made the catches and we scored 51 points and we had 323 yards passing.

Based on that if you guys try a defensive game plan similar to that it looks like it could either work really well (Texas) or completely backfire (Okie St.). I think a lot of it would depend on how good your secondary is and their ability to cover our receivers one on one.

Of course if Zac Lee winds up starting that changes everything.

I honestly don't think we will need to worry about it, he will likely be out.

He will play.... We better have a plan in place to stop him and Helu or our score will look as bad as KSU and Mizzou's did. They scored 51 on OSU for goodness sake. The Nubs will be throwing everything at us and I hope we can stay close enough to have a chance at the end.

My question is- did Missouri stack the box? If they did, then that could explain how Helu had three 50+ yard scores. Once you get through the line, there's no one to stop you. I'd prefer to put a spy on Martinez, a spy on Helu, and let them beat you with the pass if they can.

Defense-Hit him on every single play...if you can. Stack the box, tackle well(which we do) and don't let them get behind you. Helu will hurt you but we need to start the game hitting Martinez on every single zone read. Get him a little nervous and then force him to throw. He is dinged up and the more he gets hurt the more he hurts. I am not implying do anything dirty just good clean hits. Make him beat you through the air and trust Johnson and Reeves in man

Offense- run the damn ball. If nebraska has a weakness on defense, it is the run defense. Based on twitter, Lamaak should be back so we need to ride his rear end and run the damn ball. Eat clock and score TDs. We need to score first.

Unfortunately, I think our DL success the last two games is more a function of who we played than our team improving. This means hitting Martinez will not be easy. And I am pretty sure our offense has yet to come out and have a good first series. Without looking, I don't think we have scored a TD on our first possession in any game this year.

I think people are underestimating his arm. He is not a great passer, and is clearly a better runner than a passer. But in the several games I've seen, he throws an extremely accurate deep ball. We've seen in a few games our DB's get beat deep but the throws were off. I think this could be the biggest key for tomorrows game. If we can limit Martinez to just running that will be huge.
