Mangino to Pitt?

I highly doubt MM gets offere the Pitt job, highly doubt. That's a top 20 job IMO. They are about to pour a bunch of new $$ into that place. Now maybe the hire him as OC but HC? no.

i could see them going after Tressel though. You know he's coming back and he has strong ties to Penn.

A top 20 job? They don't even have their own stadium. For kicks I thought I'd try to come up with 20 jobs better off the top of my head:

Alabama
LSU
Florida
Auburn
Texas A & M
Texas
Oklahoma
USC
FSU
Clemson
Oregon
Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Georgia
Nebraska
Tennessee
Wisconsin
UCLA
Michigan State

I engage in these threads, soley for the hope of reading a post like yours. It warms my heart to be put in my place by the internet's better people. It comforts me to know that you not only took the time to read a thread beneath you, but also to take the time and let us know how dumb it was.

Is this supposed to make me feel bad? If so, you failed.

My gut tells me Mangino has more honor than that, but you never know. I think he will be back for at least the next season.

Since we're running with the hypotheticals...

Nothing against Sage (and I wouldn't be totally opposed to taking a leap with him if Mangino left us high and dry), but why would you take the leap with him at OC as opposed to a former Cyclone who actually has relevant coaching experience like Austin Flynn?

I'm always surprised at how frequently Sage is mentioned here versus Austin. From everything I've heard, Austin would seem to have a bright coaching future, and perhaps some intriguing Texas recruiting ties.

I think both will eventually make excellent coaches. I was lucky enough to meet Sage a couple of times while he was at Iowa State, and I was very impressed. Not just in his athletic ability, but his intelligence and charisma. Very likable capable person IMO.

I never met Austin, even though I was in school with him, but he seemed like a very intelligent QB. He didn't have the athletic tools to become a top tier Big 12 QB, but he made up for it with grit and good decisions. If I'm not mistaken he is the OC for Grand View? Whom has won like two or possibly three NC in a row at their level of football??? Help please?

Pitt is not remotely close to a Top 20 job. I think it's right in the sweet spot for Mangino - good enough that he'd consider jumping there from Iowa State OC, but not so good that they would have significantly better options.

That said, if I am Pitt, my first and ideally only call is to Greg Schiano.

Still with the Sage stuff? Good lord. Austin Flynn would have a better shot and he has roughly a 0% chance of being hired in that capacity.

Football and basketball are also much, much different.

If Rosenfels wants to do football at all, it's on TV, not on the sidelines. I don't think Austin Flynn gets a FBS coordinator's job out of Grand View, either, but I will continue to follow his career and expect him to get a shot someday.

I doubt he's headed to Pitt, since he was kind of a throw-in at the end of the article, but how would taking a promotion for more money indicate a lack of honor?

I think Mark came here with the understanding that he had two years to make this offense effective. Running out on Rhoads when he's likely to lose his job if there isn't success I would certainly hope it at least weighed on his conscience. Money is a vehicle for success, it is not something that bypasses morality. Maybe I got on my high horse? It's just how I see it.

So Pitt hires him away, he wins 10 games next year and we hire him after Rhodes is fired!

Stanford

then schools that are probably better but debatable:
North Carolina
Arizona
Iowa
Rest of the SEC schools
Washington
Oklahoma State
Louisville
Miami

and the list goes on. Pitt is MAYBE a top 40 job.

[h=2]Mangino to Pitt?[/h]Sorry guys, there was a misunderstanding here.

Oh, cmon. If he got offered the Pitt job of course he would go. CPR would tell him to take it. Now, if he left to be the new OC or some other kind of lateral move then that's kind of crappy. A head coaching job at Pitt is a MAJOR step up. It's not like if CPR gets fired his family is going on the street. He's made a lot of money doing a mediocre coaching job at ISU.

It will be Narduzzi for the Pitt job. They did not even interview Schiano. Doubt if they take Mangino.
