Malou staying in NBA Draft

I personally blame the NCAA on the eligibility question

NCAA no longer gives a **** about student athletes. He ain't goin to skool now

I have seen a few posters criticize the NCAA about the Malou situation, that seems totally misplaced. Go back and look at Malou's history. In 2011 he attended post-secondary school and played "college" hoops in Austrailia. He then attended ABCD Academy in 2012 & 2013. Finally, in 2014 he went to Yuba and 2015 a combination of Yuba/DMACC.

That is a pretty sketchy academic background and who knows if he was on his track to get his Associates. Combine that with his family situation, it's easy to see he might have decided it's time to make money playing pro ball in the NBA or overseas.

It doesn't take very long to sift through these issues. Admissions departments do it every day. It is the months and months of non-activity by the NCAA that is the biggest problem.

That's exactly why people are taking issue with the NCAA. While it was clear Malou was trying to become eligible to play basketball in college, the NCAA was likely going to prevent that from happening despite his efforts.

Moot point. NCAA wouldn't have ruled before May 25th deadline.

If it was 50/50 on being ruled eligible and you had to gamble which path do you take? I'm going to the draft and at least getting a paycheck if I can't guarantee my school will be paid for (and I don't have funds to pay my own way). Going pro was the safest bet.

Even if it was 90 being eligible and 10 not being eligible you try your luck with the NBA.
Kid has already missed a year of competitive ball and is not young by NBA standards.

Just imagine how much better positioned for the draft this kid would have been if he'd stayed in Australia, built up a reputation based on upside, played in a few showcases over here and declared for the draft. Teams are always drafting based on potential and upside, especially with international players. Instead, the kid wasted time bouncing from school to school based on bad advice from his "mentors".

I don't think his initial situation was a good environment to showcase basketball skills. He may have found better options elsewhere in Australia, but it was doubtful where he was at.

Well e wry one said Lard had no chance including CW and now he looks highly probable. Had he been highly probable all along he would likely be a 4* that would have been hard to snag out of louisiana. Staff rolled the dice on 2 talented kids hoping one would pan out knowing the possiblity neither would but really when you have 6 openings you can roll 2 dice and still be ok and guess what looks like one will pan out. You can't have your cake and eat it too, we take some flyers every now and then it is how ISU competes. Sure it would be nice to never have to take risks and sign 13 pretty sure bets like Kentucky but that just isn't our reality.

Don't try to be reasonable and logical in here. This is a message board, damn it!

It shouldn't be a big surprise Malou is staying in the draft after the Boston Celtics invite. Other NBA teams hinted interest as well. He'll probably be a 2nd round pick. Good for him. I still think ISU wins more games this year than last. Prohm and his staff did a great job recruiting IMO. Nice incoming class. Time to move on.

If you read his family story, it all starts with the bad luck of missing the plane to Canada and ending up in Australia (no idea how that happens). Visibility of basketball skills in Canada would have put him in blueblood spotlights earlier in career.

i feel bad for the kid after reading his story but right now i don't even think about him. time to move on. sick of guys committing and have questions. maybe we should start recruiting guys we know have solid backgrounds.

Iowa State isn't a blueblood. In order to compete ISU needs to take risks, refer to ISU being known as transfer U under Fred.

As a Cyclone fan, it sucks he won't make it to ISU, but even though he never wore the cardinal and gold I will cheer for his success. He deserves something good to happen to him, even after all the bad advice and struggles he seems to be not only talented but a genuinely good person.

Agreed, wish him the absolute best in life.

Would be a perfect fit for the Spurs. It's going to be cool seeing Malou and Niang in the black and silver next season.

Sucks he isn't coming and probably nobody cares, but he worked out for the Kings today. Hope he gets drafted.
