Malou staying in NBA Draft

you can read it however you want. there's a difference between going after a guy like White who has problems but whose eligibility was never questioned. That's a solid choice. Then there's wasting time and scholarships on guys whose eligibility are unknown. Those are completely separate things. You understand the difference?

Malou could possibly get drafted higher than Niang without ever playing a minute of D1 basketball. Plus he loved Iowa State and wanted nothing more than to play here. He was well worth the risk.

Except it's not a waste of a scholarship. The staff never stopped recruiting, and even secured a commitment at his position before this news officially broke. What exactly do you think was effected by Malou committing here, and then not being able to come? Besides time, which is a non issue because he committed last fall, and he was a huge Iowa St fan. I'm guessing this staff spent less time and money recruiting Malou, than any other commitment, or primary target we had last fall.

But nothing is really wasted. We kept recruiting in case this happened. His scholarship is not tied up and can be used for another player that we want.

^^^This, how much time and energy have our coaching staff wasted on guys like Malou and Vaughn? What a joke.

This reads like a guy who is content to go home with a "2" who weighs in at 3 spins because a couple of times it didn't work out chasing a "10".

Question. Now to be clear I'm not doubting the accuracy as I 100% believe that he is staying in the draft, but why are we confirming it with an agent that he couldn't have if he was coming back. Why would you not ask Malou or Iowa State to confirm it?

i feel bad for the kid after reading his story but right now i don't even think about him. time to move on. sick of guys committing and have questions. maybe we should start recruiting guys we know have solid backgrounds.

Agreed but if you take a look at some tweets from Fraschilla and Goodman, they aren't pointing fingers at the NCAA or ISU. Which leaves only one party. It sounds like this kid had people that weren't giving him the best advice...

You gotta plow a 4 to appreciate an 8.

Because he has an agent now. It's like once you get a lawyer, he does your talking for you.

My guess, he decided, within the past week, that is best for him to stay in the draft, then he hired an agent before going public.

Romello White would be a home run, I don't worry a bit about having 7 to fill next year.

It's a new era.

As posted earlier - it's their jobs to recruit players. Recruiting Malou did't mean they didn't have time to recruit anyone else. And it's not like they aren't recruiting hundreds of kids to begin with and only signing a handful each year.

If the kid was worth the shot, take it. Same thing for every kid out there they are targeting to play for ISU.

Plus, if we hadn't spent time recruiting him and then offering him a scholarship, KU or one of the bluebloods would have. The NCAA may have been "okay" with allowing him to play college in that scenario. (Well, maybe not - but the UNC fiasco still makes my blood boil with hatred of the NCAA).

It is a bummer for Iowa State But hopefully great for the kid. If he truly struggled with grades it would have hurt us more to have him get here and participate and then possibly not make grades for a 2nd semester and leaving us to have to scramble right before the conference season starts.
