Had some from a stand today. Ears were small, but the flavor was excellent.
Same for us. Usually the first ones don't have much flavor

Only partially kidding when I say we should've had crowd control several days. Next patch starts Friday or Saturday if my sweetcorn math is right?

Indeed! Fruit of the earth. That looks amazing
Had and a really good ear tonight from Grimes.
20 years ago, I knew someone who sold sweet corn. Back then it was $100 cash per day but it was like "you're there until it's sold/it's dark out."I had some Monday and it was pretty tasty for the first pick of the season. Saw people complaining on Facebook Monday morning how they thought the ears were too small, rows not straight, missing kernels. etc. So much ignorance as we are in a drought still so it has not been ideal growing conditions plus sweet corn really doesn't hit it's ideal time to harvest until late July/early August really. The stuff you get around Aug 1 usually has larger ears and more flavor IMO.
It's one thing I hate about social media are the idiots that trash on local businesses for dumb reasons. I know the Grimes sweet corn folks were seeing it too as I messaged them after 1pm as their stand was gone in town when I went to get some so they let me know you could stop by the farm just north of town and get some from their farm stand. When I pulled in 2 gals were moving what they had left to the back of the truck stand and 1 gal who I assume must be the owner was talking to the other gal how people on Facebook were complaining and "1 person just messaged me that they drove by your stand in town and it was gone." I told her I sent the message, I was not mad just was checking to see if they were sold out and I had no issue driving a couple extra miles to the farm to get some as I didn't know that was an option. Gal was really nice, found out that their farm stand is self service so you need to bring excact cash or a check to put in a box when you get some from there and their prices there are actually cheaper since they aren't paying someone to run the stand. I just wanted a half dozen which was $4.50, gave her a $10 bill and said just give me $5 back to make it easy. She then tells me to take another ear "since I shorted you on change." I didn't need the extra ear just thanked her and said consider it a tip for the hard work they put in just so people can enjoy some sweet corn around the 4th.
Bet you would have made more money if you had big hooters.20 years ago, I knew someone who sold sweet corn. Back then it was $100 cash per day but it was like "you're there until it's sold/it's dark out."
So if you were able to get a good spot, you were making some decent money/per hour.

You sir are a saint! Tipping an entire .50 cents is beyond gracious to the point of an indulgence. You sir are making all of us look bad.I had some Monday and it was pretty tasty for the first pick of the season. That’s called cougar corn.Funny I find the more mature ears later in season to be tough and usually less enjoyable to the more tender early ears.
