Local Sweet Corn ready?

Here in QC area I'm a few weeks away yet. Worried, I made a swipe with the planter by the house so most I have planted. I hope Hy-Vee takes what we don't eat and give a way again this year.

Next year I am doing some popcorn.

SOUTHWEST IOWA ?

More like West Central (North of CB/Omaha).

This patch, and the next one, will be chopped disked and double-cropped for September/October maturity. The first corn and the last corn of the year has little competition and basically sells itself.

still a little early here (upper midwest)... some producers start planting in early may and weekly until 4th of july.. im in the sweet corn business.. have probably $30k worth in my basement right now. lots of very good hybrids coming soon
You grow it in your basement? I think you have confused sweet leaf with sweet corn.

Grimes "Peaches and Cream" sweet corn is available now in Ames at the Grand/13th intersection. I saw it for the first time yesterday when I went to the Ames parade.

Had my first ear tonight. Got the batch from the same place I always have. Was ok not great. Several ears were mostly duds.

Got a baker's dozen of Grimes sweet corn from a local stand this past Wednesday. Pretty good, only needed 8 ears but knew out of 13 there'd be some duds and there were, a handful of really skimpy ones.

I can't remember the last time I had an ear of corn that was mostly duds. Maybe you need to find a new place. I get mine from Fareway (Ames), HyVee (West Ames), Grimes "peaches and cream" (Ames intersection of Grand & 13th).

Saw it was $9/dozen at the stand on 13th and Grand, I'll stick to frozen corn.

Had some Grimes over the weekend much like everyone is saying small kernels but good flavor. Their fields are irrigated so they do have an advantage. Carlisle hasn't been out yet that I've seen.

Picked our first ears this morning, still a little early but worse than I thought. Corn was setting during the drought spell we had here.
On the other hand, yields are going to be awesome with the timely rain we had for that, but wash out for sweet corn.

I saw several signs for sweet corn in NE Iowa on my roadtrip to Milwaukee this week.
