Linemen injuries

Romas was playing really well before he went down. His block early the first quarter opened up a lot of run for Hall.

Hudson and Romas was where the pressure came from on the block field goal.

Injuries are starting to add up and the play is still pretty good, which is hard to believe, based on the history at ISU. Still it would be nice to get some of the starters back. It sounds like Downing might be back late in the season or not at all, so that is a little discouraging.

So, ankle? Knee? Torn ligaments? I somehow missed the nature of the injury back then. If season ending.. would he qualify for medical redshirt?

Campbell said it was an ankle, and that it would be a while until he was available. That is all he said, but it seemed like he said Downing was kind of day to day before, so not sure if he is worse than initially thought, or Campbell is just BSing.

IIRC you are allowed to play in 4 games now, no more, and then still be able to redshirt?

Trevor is a RS-Soph so redshirt already taken. I suppose he could have the year back due to Covid, if he wanted, play later this year or not.

This year doesn't count against you regardless of how many games you play.

I assume that it is a high ankle issue. These are slow to heal and easy to reinjure. Usually takes at least six weeks to recover, but can take anywhere from 3 months up to 12 months in severe cases to regain full mobility.

Remsburg seemed to do well not giving up any pressure. The thing I’ve noticed Ramos is great at is sealing the edge for Breece on a lot of those outside runs
A lot of Breece's big runs to the right later in the game were good blocking by Remsberg, Newell and Simmons. Our O Line is finally playing with a bit of a nasty attitude, finally.

This year doesn’t count towards future eligibility anyway, so no benefit to burning a medical red shirt.

Simmons got a bit of an education vs OU, but those guys are still crazy talented, and he still played well overall. The best thing you can do for a young OL is pound the ball, utilize your TEs to chip, and have a QB that can play in chaos.

Not to mention, utilize the RPO if you have a QB that’s good at it.

You can't put tomatoes out there against any Big 12 team and expect good results.

Seriously though, I thought you were no longer allowed to go over the snapper on kicks. The block came from a guy who went over the snapper and leveraged off of a teammate. Pick either one of those to throw a flag. But I have never seen a flag thrown for leverage - not even on that KSU blocked PAT a few years ago that was a textbook example of leverage.

Wasn’t Newell “day to day” for most of last season too? Seemed like every game we thought he was going to be back based on the status we were given.

I think that's the excuse Campbell gives when he wants to roll with what's working. I think he prefers to avoid tinkering with chemistry on that unit. If we sustain another injury, Downing will be the next man in.

Coach talk. You will never know! A player will just get healthy enough some week in the future.
