I had been married for just over three years. We bought a house together in February, 2002, and had our housewarming party the last weekend in June. That following Monday morning, she woke me up at about 8am (after I had worked all night til 6am, and had just gotten to sleep), to inform me that she no longer trusted me. That she wanted a divorce, and she was going to start sleeping in the spare bedroom til she found a place.
I was a little shell-shocked, and had no idea where this had come from. So, we lived an awkward couple of months together until she found her new place. She called me up to sign the divorce papers on my birthday (almost 7 years ago today), and we were divorced a couple of weeks later.
Really didn't hear anything from her again til about 5 months later when she had called and left a couple of messages, telling me to call her when I got a chance. I finally called her back on my way home from work one night. She told me that maybe I should pull over or wait til I got home. I said, don't worry about it, what's up.
She said, "well, I just wanted to let you know that I got married." And I was like, uhhh, ok? Thinking, why did you need to call me to tell me this? And asked when that happened? She said that it happened the last weekend of April. With my quick goat math, I came to the conclusion that they were married less than a week after our divorce was final. Neat. At that point, I hadn't even as much as dated anybody. I asked her if it was this dude that she worked with, and she said yeah. I always had suspected that she liked the guy, but she always denied it.
Then, she said, "that's not all. I'm also 4 months pregnant. I got pregnant on our honeymoon." Neat again. So, I said, "wow, that's great. I'm really happy for you." And she said, "you are??" And I actually was, kind of. When we were together, she had two ectopic pregnancies as a result of endometreosis, and eventually had to have one of her tubes tied. So, her chances of ever having children was small. So, I was actually happy that she was actually to have children, though she didn't believe that.
So, anyway, that would be my main break-up story. It was kinda shocking at first, but as with about anything, you later realize the old cliche that everything happens for a reason.
