Kyle Kempt's arm strength

Yes it was, I believe Kempt had the offense stuck in the mud that game as well and it was Noland who got them back into the game and in position to get to OT. The teams ceiling is way lower with Kempt at QB.

Kempt was playing hurt the OSU game. Pretty obvious he was not 100%. It is interesting the ceiling is lower with Kempt given Kempt beat two top 5 ranked teams and won a bowl game.

Fact is, Kempt proved to be a capable QB for us. No doubt he will be even better this year. If Noland can beat him out, that is awesome because we will be that much better of a team for it. There is no need to bash on Kempt though, he provided a lift to this program last year just when ALL of us thought we had just received another blow to the nuts AGAIN.

Still curious to see how Kempt develops with an offseason's worth of first-team reps and attention on his way.

Being a Kempt downer is one thing, but I'm not down on our staff's ability to coach and develop talent, including his.

Kempt didn't win those games the Defense did, and they were the only reason we were in the KSU WV and Memphis games. Bottom line, those games were atrocious offensively and you should want more out of the QB position. Kempt served his purpose last year but if he's the starter this year we will not make a bowl game.

You joined this site about a month ago and all but a couple of your posts have been critical of Kempt. What's up with that?

I'm going to go with "Don't feed the troll".

If Kempt was actually terrible, the staff wouldn't have had him pursue the extra year of eligibility. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Campbell and his staff know a metric **** ton more about football than some douche on CF.

I agree with HipHopp let's get back to more important things, like JLH gifs

Kempt finished the season with a 66.3% completion percentage (setting the ISU single season record), 17 TD's to 3 INT's, led the team to victories over #3 Oklahoma in Norman and #4 TCU along with a bowl victory over Memphis IN Memphis. The poise that Kempt brings to the QB position and the sound judgment is something that I really do not think you appreciate. No, he doesn't have a cannon of an arm like Zeb does but who in their right mind could argue against those stats and achievements for Kempt last season? Kyle Kempt is an equivalent to Trent Dilfer when he lead the Ravens to a SB title or even to Peyton Manning with Denver. They aren't going to wow you with arm strength or the ability to make the big time throws, but they are smart and manage the game and don't turn the ball over. That's exactly what Kyle Kempt brings to the QB position for the Cyclones.

What games didn't the defense win? The only times the offense was good relative to the opponent might have been Iowa, second half vs OU, first half vs TTech, first half vs TCU and most of the OSU game. It was bad against Texas, WVU and Baylor.
All three QBs had a hand in some good and bad offensive performances. Whichever QB wins the job I think they will play well and the offense will be better in large part to OL improvement and both Kempt and Noland getting more experience and reps.

They were team wins. When your QB isn't repeatedly giving the ball back to the opponent with a short field it makes the job of your defense a lot easier.

Yep. You don't have to be a 5 star freak athlete with a cannon for an arm to win games in college.

The thing that worries me is if any defensive coordinator is worth anything they will play trail technique and force Kyle to beat them over the top. I hope he improves his arm strength to counter that.

One misconception is that arm strength = good deep ball. Arm strength helps fit the ball in tight windows and make throws from one hash to the other sideline. It doesn't really affect the deep ball, which is more about touch. Kempt showed he is willing and capable to throw deep. The trail technique in the red zone might be a good idea given most of our TD passes were on back shoulders. But I don't think it would be that effective in the middle of the field, especially with a guy like Butler who has shown he can get behind a defense.

Some of the Kempt doubters on here remind me of the people who doubted whether Kurt Warner would keep his job after Trent Green got healthy. They gave most of the credit for the team's success to the OC Mike Martz, RB Marshall Faulk and the wide receivers. Warner didn't have as much talent as Favre but he could read defenses and get the ball out fast. He would also hit guys in stride. I don't know if Kempt even has a chance in the NFL (no one thought Warner did either) but I see a lot of similarities between the two.

REQUIREMENTS for CMC QB in order of importance:

1]GAME MANAGER

2] Everything else

Never understood the problem with a QB being a game manager on a winning team.

'You mean he didn't **** up and did what he needed to and the team won? Oh, ok.'

I like Kyle. He’s a good guy. IMO our defense outperformed our offense after Park. I hope Kyle gets better at the read option. He’s pretty smart, so maybe he has some upside with growing the offense. The sideline screens and slant routes require velocity to offset the dB reaction time. Keep in mind 2 interceptions were taken away by the officials and another 1 or 2 were dropped in Memphis. He is not infallible. I’m glad he’s back, but the opposing defenses will know his tendencies and limitations. We will compete in almost every game. If he gets hurt again, let Zeb have the ball. That’s allI I ask.

Team game. If the offense doesn't make mistakes, the
defense will do better.

Near interceptions/dropped interceptions happen to every QBs not only Kempt. Yes, he was lucky and bailed out few times but so as every QBs who played last year
