Kyle Kempt's arm strength

They didn't score over 20 points in either of those games, that certainly isn't playing well enough to win in my eyes... He doesn't seem to be able to take advantage of the defense putting 8 guys in the box. We will continue to have heartbreaking losses if this trend continues.

Again, bad weather didn't help at WVU and I still firmly believe we win that game if Edwards (I believe it was him) doesn't let a guy get behind him seemingly 2 minutes into the game for the TD. Gave them all the momentum.

Why are you content with being average? If ISU had better QB play they would have had 10+ wins this year.

You might as well say if Iowa State had fewer dropped passes, more interceptions, more sacks, more QB pressures, more time to throw, bigger holes to run through. Heck we could have beaten texas if our defensive guys don't get two 15 yd penalties on 3rd down stops. It's a team game.

Id also say that 2 of his interceptions were just great defensive plays. I would also imagine there will be more effort in increasing his strength and speed. Plus I would bet he has a stronger football throwing arm then 90 percent of us jokers on cyclonefanatic

I like Kyle. He’s a good guy. IMO our defense outperformed our offense after Park. I hope Kyle gets better at the read option. He’s pretty smart, so maybe he has some upside with growing the offense. The sideline screens and slant routes require velocity to offset the dB reaction time. Keep in mind 2 interceptions were taken away by the officials and another 1 or 2 were dropped in Memphis. He is not infallible. I’m glad he’s back, but the opposing defenses will know his tendencies and limitations. We will compete in almost every game. If he gets hurt again, let Zeb have the ball. That’s allI I ask.

If he gets hurt, don't play him. I guess that works.

Near interceptions/dropped interceptions happen to every QBs not only Kempt. Yes, he was lucky and bailed out few times but so as every QBs who played last year

This effective completion percentage that PFF is using is so dumb. If you haven't seen it, it accounts for drops, tipped passes, and a couple other common football plays. Iowa fans have been using it to prop up Stanley's average efficiency numbers.

Every QB deals with WR drops, tipped passes. And a tipped pass shouldn't be counted in favor of the QB. Sorry, a little off topic, but your post reminded me of this dumb stat.

One misconception is that arm strength = good deep ball. Arm strength helps fit the ball in tight windows and make throws from one hash to the other sideline. It doesn't really affect the deep ball, which is more about touch. Kempt showed he is willing and capable to throw deep. The trail technique in the red zone might be a good idea given most of our TD passes were on back shoulders. But I don't think it would be that effective in the middle of the field, especially with a guy like Butler who has shown he can get behind a defense.

I don't know TCU was pretty effective with it. Really the one throw that I go back to is the throw over the top against WVU and he underthrew a wide open Ryen. Is there an example of him beating someone over the top? I can't think of one right now. Sure would be nice to see him beat a few over the top consistently to make people honest.
