Kansas State vs Iowa State Predictions

I know we had a bad season last year, but I really respected Donovan Jackson standing up and saying the team was disrespecting Hilton.

I would like to see someone stand up on this team and assume the leadership mantle. Maybe it has already happened but it hasn't been apparent to me.

KSU is good because they are tough. They won in Hilton because Brown out-toughed us over the last minutes. We need to have someone to stand up and be tough for us, it would be nice to have someone like Deandre Kane, but that personality is hard to find.

We have the talent to beat anyone, if we have someone step up and lead the team.

It's been pointed out by others we need someone to be "the guy" as well. Shayok is the most logical candidate. We need someone who wants the ball in crunch time and will find his shot when the game is on the line.

Opinions?

I really think THT will become that guy.....I see signs of him wanting to be that guy, but he doesn't think it's time yet. I think he knows that this is NWB's team right now.

Because he is? Almost all of Weber's success has came because of talent handed to him. If we're talking credentials than Kruger and Huggins are miles ahead of Prohm but we're not. We're talking about who you would trade Prohm for and I know I sure as hell wouldn't for Bruce Weber

So your empirical evidence that Prohm is a better coach than Weber is "because he is." Good stuff there.

Without Self's players at Illinois, he basically started the decade long slide they are in.

Without Martin and Delonte Hill's players at KSU he's been incredibly average. He's probably going to win the conference this year, and kudos to him for that, however KSU is still a 6 seed on bracket matrix, and ISU is still a 4 seed. I'd rather drop a few seeds and win the conference like they are but let's not get out over our skis here.

You guys are going to have me sounding like an anti-Prohm guy, which I am not, but think about what you are saying. We are talking Prohm vs. Weber in terms of coaching ability. So the knock both of you have on Weber is "what has he done with his own players?" Is that really a route to go in support of Prohm, who has had the bulk of his success with Kennedy and Hoiberg's players?

Again I like Prohm. He's doing a great job. But using the "he uses other guys players" excuse as a reason Weber is better than Prohm is comical. Especially considering Weber is coming off of an Elite 8 and is currently 1st place in the Big 12 with all players he has recruited.

Dying on the Bruce Weber is a good coach hill is really not somewhere I saw myself when I woke up today, but alas...

Pretty much yeah. Weber has a better resume but I'd still take Prohm every day of the week. He's a better offensive coach and recruiter for sure and our defense is very good this year too

Recruiting has nothing to do with your assertion that we are better coached.

The difference is we didn’t get to be the first 8/9 to avoid a one seed in round 2. We earned our right to benefit from that spot during the season.

yeah, but ISU still got a break in not having to play the higher seed. I am not saying they did get more of a break as theirs was historic.

We're 100 spots better than Kansas State in AdjO. 100! We're only 24 spots behind them in AdjD

Justify it however you want. I just venture to guess that if you polled average college basketball fans who did not have a dog in the fight the overwhelming majority would pick Weber as the better coach.

Again, not talking recruiting. Not talking building a program. I'm saying in-game coach.

Well according to KenPom Prohm is the better in game coach right now...

Why do you think he is a better in game coach?

I'd say Tyrese is the positive leader on the court this year, and will continue to be that. I agree that THT can be the toughness leader in the future, but may not be quite there yet (though he has been getting more and more physical, which is great to see). Jacobson might be the work ethic leader.

If we are just looking at AdjO that makes Fran better than Prohm, which we of course all know is not true. I hope Dexter and iahawks aren't lurking around in here...

Overall we're 15th and Kansas State 27th. I'm not just talking AdjO

This might come off wrong, but for a team that has won 9 in a row in conference, I'm really not scared of Kansas State. I'd be shocked if this game doesn't go down to the wire, hopefully our guys can make plays at the end this time to get a big win!

No doubt. I expect a close game to the wire. K-State is playing really well right now, but I still don't trust their offense. I watched a few minutes of their earlier games this season and they just couldn't score. Their offense was so bad and stagnant.

Now, their defense has been great, and I would be excited if I was Surly based on their offense lately for a strong finish to the season and long tourney run, but I still can't get those eye-bleeding games from earlier in the season out of my memory. This is the same team that snuck by Southern Miss, lost to Tulsa by scoring only 46 points!, and beat George Mason at home by one point. If their offense keeps it up, it will be tough to win there, but I'm still thinking the Clones keep the Big XII title race jumbled by winning this one.
