Kansas State Endzone Upgrade

It's neat how they are taking the more modern look and making it match the campus feel of limestone/old looking. Any plans you know of to do the same face lift to the last side?

Crazy they just put 8 mil into the old Vanier. The videos I've seen of the new press tower are impressive. They really did change the whole use of that space with what they did.

i suppose in time they'll veneer the east side. today, that's a $20mm project, that adds zero revenue or use for the athletes. nonetheless, some rich guy may step-up and say 'finish the damn thing!'

limestone is quarried near manhattan, thus the campus, downtown and ft. riley are largely limestone structures. if you've ever visited, you know there are few trees in the area, then or now. this picture, circa 1850's, was of an original ft. riley building construction project. the fort, town and college have very close ties dating back to their foundings.

The thing that really helps KState is the Facade. I think our layout is better but their stadium is better because of the facade and press box. Hopefully we can get some sort of facade and eventually get a big press box as well.

Wow! I'm surprised that many people go out of their way support a D-2 school!

I'm more impressed they likely had to travel through South Dakota, Nebraska, then Kansas...what a boriing drive to watch that game!

For sure...and their west side addition this year is way more than a facade, it's a multipurpose game day and non game day space.

The problem we have is our place was built in the height of "concrete" design.

I do think our SEZ will have a appealing facade as I've heard Leath and Pollard talk about how it is the gateway to campus.

Really, we just need CFH to get that national title to keep the $$$ rolling in...then from there, we do what we want. K-State has some pretty wealthy donors (think cattlemen, etc).

agriculture, generally, as well as oil have been good to k-state recently. plus, there are several successful business alums like the managing director & cfo of bain capital and the president & ceo of the bnsf.

Next step for Iowa State is get lots of super rich alumni

I guess I understand the rich donors argument when talking about schools that have major law schools or med schools, but I have a little harder time understanding it in regards to KState. They don't have law or med programs. They are very similar to us in that they are more ag and engineering based . On top of that, they have lower rated programs than ISU and a smaller enrollment. I would be shocked if there was solid data available to show that there is significantly more wealth among KSU alums than there is ISU alums. So based on that, it would appear that the difference is their ability to get some of that money directed back into their athletic programs. Winning a few more football games could certainly help in that regard.

it's probably not only alums. but it would be an interesting study, yes. i actually worked for one of your distinquished alums, **** matzke. great guy. often wondered what role **** plays at isu these days. i'm sure he's involved.

I feel like they have more super rich people. We may have higher overall wealth but you need to get big donations to do stuff. I'd like it if we could set up plans and save all of our smaller donations, but in reality that doesn't happen you need the big donation to start things and we just don't have those types of people.

I think K-State has one of the best college football coaches of all-time. To come back and do what he has done is just amazing. K-State is very smart, they are raising money when the iron is hot. Much easier to raise money when Snyder is doing what he is doing and looking like he could do it for quite a few more years.

And picture the K-State folks who, in the late 80s, were middle aged fans and lived the rebirth with Snyder....now, as they are at retirement age and have lots of money, want to do whatever they can to help. And, let's be honest, like a lot of our fans, they are TRUE fans as they sat through some garbage times to get success...and he had BCS success.

Wait, ISU has received many large donations from wealthy alums recently. I seem to remember one announced a few months back. You guys are acting like we haven't invested ~$75 million in football facilities in the last 10 years. KSU is just doing theirs in a more condensed time frame. After our SEZ project, that's $135 million + in football facility upgrades.

Not to mention the Sukup basketball facility, the new Cyclone Sports Complex, the golf performance center, all funded with healthy donations. We may not have KState money, but we're holding our own...
