NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Should be at 5 straight SB appearances right now also, coughed up a big lead at home against the Bungles two years ago. Had complete control of that game and then didn't kick the FG at the end of the first half like they should have and got stuffed trying to get a TD instead. Cinci had no business being in that SB and it showed when it was played.
The Bengal loss doesn't bother me as much as Houston lining up offsides against the Pats, when we stopped Brady to win the game. At least the Bengals came out and won the game, but we gave the Pats their last super bowl trip because of that one play.

Yes and no. KC was probably the best team in the league that year, but Cincinnati was better that day. Gotta show up every week to get the trophy.

Chiefs had the option of going home or road jersey and they decided to go with the home reds:

Yea, that was Andy's moment to be Dan Campbell. Although story came out later than Mahomes was insisting on going for it. What could have been if they just kicked the FG. :(

Yeah, I remember that. Mahomes convinced him to go for it. Then I think when they didn't get it, Mahomes just started pressing in the second to try and make up for it instead of just taking what the Bengals were giving him.

So Toney can't be brought back next year right? I mean, to come out and say that the Chiefs were lying about him having an injury is bonkers stuff.
I love the fact though that the Chiefs finally started using less WRs. I felt like they were trying too hard earlier in the year to incorporate to many WRs. Now that Moore and Toney have been out it seems about right. And I like using Noah Grey more and the RBs like they have been.

Said it before, Toney has played his last down with the Chiefs, no way they active him to play in the SB. They kept him to use only in an emergency in case one of the other receivers goes down in practice till then.
Toney should have kept his mouth shut but burning this bridge and the way in acted with the Giants, will turn off many teams, he will find it difficult getting another shot on a winning team after the season. If you cannot play for Reid, you really are going to struggle getting another shot with another team.

I felt the Chiefs should have won that first AFC Championship game but Reid completely mismanaged those drives where the Chiefs scored (at the end).

In real time, both times they scored, I thought Reid should have tried to run the clock, manage the drive, and tell his offense "we are either scoring with little to no time on the clock or we are turning it over on downs". The Chiefs could score at will but so could the Patriots, as the Chiefs defense was brutal. The way that game unfolded was entirely predictable.

At the time I doubted Reid had the chops to make the right calls in crunch time as he was prone to the same types of lapses in Philly. To his credit I think he learned from that, and has increasingly relied on the unit/things that put the team in position to win games. Rely on your strengths, not your weaknesses.

Still have a game left to play but with an off week its fair to speculate about looming decisions. Is there any chance Reid and possibly even Kelce retires if they win the SB? I am hoping for no on both parts but Reid turns 66 in March and the speculation was out there last year too. Kelce is 34, turns 35 in October and can go out on top and settle down with Swift although I think she enjoys going to these games too so maybe she plans her tour around the football schedule next season.

The obvious for next season is Toney and MVS will be gone and I am starting to wonder if they look at trading Moore away too as he's been a bust so far and I doubt Mahomes trusts him anymore either. I'm hoping Reid keeps coaching as long as he's got the passion for it and good health as him and Mahomes have a good thing going. I don't even want to think about who the Chiefs would get to replace him but the time is coming soon unfortunately.

The one thing about Toney is it’s going to cost them if they cut him so they are kind of stuck with him.

I don’t think either Reid or Kelce retire.

Kelce has said he wants 4 Super Bowls so that he can at least tie Gronk.

Toney has 1 year left with a dead cap hit of $2.5 mil if they cut him. MVS has a dead cap hit of $2 mil if they cut him otherwise he counts for just under $14 mi in 2024 so he's gone and I doubt they'd flinch on eating Toney's money either unless they can find someone to just take him for a 7th rounder or something.

Ever since I found this site I love digging through the multi-year outlooks for pro team payrolls as it does a good job with breaking down the individual contracts too: Kansas City Chiefs Player Contracts, Salaries, & Transactions | Spotrac
