NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Ya, I am sure Brady's write up sucked also. Just goes to show you that any pick is a crap shoot, there are very few "safe" picks at the QB position,

Its fun to go back and watch the reaction to the Mahomes pick on draft day by the ESPN crew, they could not believe that they took him.

I was in KC the day they took him and people around town seemed intrigued by him, but also didn't think he would start anytime soon as they had Smith and they were consistently winning games. I hadn't really paid attention to TT that year outside of them getting smoked by ISU, so I had no idea what to expect.

Veech said he was the best QB prospect he'd ever seen. I think they were ecstatic nobody else saw that in him. Veech has had about of as good of a run as a GM as you'll ever see. They have made a few bad moves(Taylor)but he's pretty much hit everything out of the park otherwise.

Sean Payton said he thought the same thing about Mahomes and they were going to take him if KC didn't

Saint were supposedly interested, and that's why KC jumped when they did. Rumor also had it that the Bears were at least considering it, but wanted someone closer to NFL ready and took Trubisky.

There's also a video going around that KC was interested in Paxton Lynch the year before, but Denver got wind of it and moved up to get him. That's the great "What if" I'm glad we never had to experience.

I remember being so pumped up as a Chiefs fan for that pick! After watching him make amazing plays at Tech I really wanted him.

Crazy to think the Bears picked Mitchell Trubisky at the top.

I hated the Mahomes pick at the time, to me we had Smith and he was playing well. I figured that choosing Mahomes meant that we were not bringing in talent for the next season and was drafting a player that would be sitting for the next couple of seasons. The Chiefs drafting of QB's has not been bad up till Mahomes it had been horrible. You could see something different in the last game of his first season, the only game he started, beat Denver on the road, making throws that were outstanding and using his legs. Glad to say I was wrong, Mahomes was a great pick and those that made it deserve all the rewards they can get.

I wouldn't say that.

If you go back and look at their drafts, even before Veech became GM (when he was heavily involved with personnel), they've had a lot of misses. He's been pretty terrible in drafting WRs. His drafts have often included a lot of busts. As you mentioned, thr Taylor/Brown decision was questionable at best.

But...you can hide those mistakes when you are consistently drafting 1-2 Pro Bowl caliber players every year. Three of those players Hill, Jones, and Mahomes are HOF'ers. Then he had the 3 drafts where he drafted Humphrey, Bolton, Gay, and Thornhill in the 2nd round, with Sneed in the 4th added for measure. Throw in Karlaftis and McDuffie, that's a lot of Pro Bowl starting talent.

From there you just have to be good enough to fill holes and manage the cap. But having 3-4 HOF players on your roster at the same time, along with a HOF coach, can help hide the warts.

Dang, that is too bad. He has played so well. But they still have Danna , Karloftis and Jones. And I am still hopefull they get Gay back since they have this break. Haven't heard what the deal with Nnadi is.
Nnadi is already out for the Superbowl, he was placed on the IR list last week.

Should be at 5 straight SB appearances right now also, coughed up a big lead at home against the Bungles two years ago. Had complete control of that game and then didn't kick the FG at the end of the first half like they should have and got stuffed trying to get a TD instead. Cinci had no business being in that SB and it showed when it was played.
