Something interesting about the last two seasons is that the Chiefs have blown a giant hole in the narrative that you can't win with a quarterback making top dollar. That's been the story that the league front offices want everyone to believe. Now, to be clear, there's nobody else like Mahomes, and that's what the ownership side of the contract negotiation table will say, but even so, agents are going to be even further emboldened to ask for a king's ransom when negotiating for top tier signal callers. Was just listening to a chiefs podcast and they think they could make up to 70 million in cap space depending on what they do with Mahomes contract and reworking a couple deals. So bringing Jones and Sneed back isn’t out of the question.
I really doubt the Chiefs have the cap space to sign Jones for what he wants, and if they do, that will eat up all the cap and they would not be able to then turn around and sign either Sneed or Gay. Letting Jones walk allows you to free up money to sign other players, it sucks but that is the NFL.Jones saved the Chiefs' ass this year, on multiple occasions. Pay the man. For me, he's the MVP of this year's team, even more than Mahomes.
Def re-sign Sneed and Gay. Elite defenders.
Trade up in the draft to get one play-maker/possession WR. Look to free agency for a deep route WR and some OL depth.
I could totally see Kelce retiring. He's still really good and even spectacular sometimes, but he isn't even an every down TE anymore.
Chenal looked great last night, so that makes the Gay decision a little easier. If I had to choose Jones or Sneed, I want Sneed.I really doubt the Chiefs have the cap space to sign Jones for what he wants, and if they do, that will eat up all the cap and they would not be able to then turn around and sign either Sneed or Gay. It was though. Before Mahomes won it last year, no quarterback in the salary cap era had ever won a Superbowl while accounting for more than 13% of the team's cap. Steve Young had been the previous high back in 1994. Mahomes blew that away last year by accounting for over 17% of Kansas City's cap. This year, he was slightly less than that at 16.5%, but still significantly above what the previous high was.I don't know if that was the narrative. IMO the narrative isn't that you can't win with a QB making top dollar. The narrative for me is that if you have a QB making top dollar they better be Mahomes/Allen type players, you cannot win with Kirk Cousins making top dollar. That's bad.

This evidence — combined with the fact that Young set his record in the first year the league played under the salary cap — led to a longstanding belief: an NFL team couldn't win the Super Bowl by spending more than 13.1% of its cap space on its quarterback
And next year it gets significantly worse unless they play more cap games. His cap hit is estimated to be almost 24% in 2024. Drafting and development has to continue to be spot on, because they can't keep kicking the can down the road forever. It was though. There’s a hidden record Patrick Mahomes broke during the Super Bowl?
Kansas City’s star quarterback shattered a record no one thought could be broken.www.arrowheadpride.com

Veach/Mahomes will work something out that benefits everyone. Whether that is enough to keep CJ, idk.
Resigning Sneed is #1 IMO. Think you let Gay walk, resign Tranquill for cheaper. If you can get it done with Chris Jones you do it. He said in post game he told Veach to bring him back, but it has to make sense and Jones has shown he will hold out for top dollar.

I have a feeling they will rework the MVS deal. That is my thinking too. Mahomes said something like "we're going to bring everyone back" in the heat of the moment which in theory sounds good but financially is not going to be possible without some concessions by him in his deal and some key guys not trying to break the bank in free agency. Jones is the one guy that everyone knows they'd like back but realistically it going to come down to what his demands are. If he wants $30 mil a year he probably won't be back.

I think CEH is gone, McKinnon could possibly be too but could see him back on a cheap deal but regardless they'll likely need to add another RB to the mix
MVS will be cut to save cap space. $2 mil in dead cap space is better than paying nearly $14 mil. Maybe they re-work his deal but he's not a guy that is a priority to retain. Guessing they will likely cut ties one way or another with Toney, unfortunately may have to eat the last year of his salary if they can't find a trade. I'd like to see Hardman back on a cheap deal, will be interesting after he chased the money last year and then couldn't crack the Jets rotation if that was an eye opener. WR is the position they have to bring in someone productive to be opposite of Rice. Thought that Moore could be that guy but I think they've lost faith in him so he's either trade bait or going to be riding the bench again like he has lately.
LT is a possible issue with Donovan Smith hitting free agency
Got some decisions to make on the defensive line with Nnadi and Danna especially if Jones leaves.
LB Tranquill and Gay are both free agents, Gay probably will get some decent offers and be tough to resign
Sneed is a big priority to keep, Mike Edwards would also be nice to bring back too if they can even if they have Cook coming back.
And no one is talking about Townsend because he's the punter but he's been a darn good one so hopefully there is room to keep him around.
