JTS Improvements - Want More

My dream would be to bowl in the NEZ, with bleacher style seats...remove the students from the upper deck completely and have students in the NEZ...would create a great environment imo
I completely agree from an atmosphere standpoint similar to the way most college basketball stadiums have their students set up, but as a student I always enjoyed sitting in the first few rows of the upper deck. Best view in the house and you didn't have to get to the stadium two hours before the game to save a seat.

Better idea. Bowl in the NEZ, and then instead of putting them there, put half them at the South goal line to go with the North. Stereophonic student sound.

The NEZ can be another “amenities” spot of some sort, including a kid zone that isn’t hillside. Oh...plus an upper deck.

Looks like they are replacing the broken windows on the SPC today?

Finally! That's been driving the OCD crowd crazy for months now.

I still think it would look better if they put those precast panels on the video board supports going up to the level they are at on the Jacobson. It would tie the video board in a little better than just the steel.

I think that they should put in permanent seating at the bottom of the hillsides. Maybe back to the video board supports. You still have some hillsides for the kids to run around, but there would be general admission seating for those that want it.

Thoughts on the Jacobsen Building's north end?

Frankly, I never even noticed it from outside until they tore down the Olsen Building. Now it seems that only the very top will be visible. And it seems very plain and doesn't fit in very well IMHO. I wonder if they have any plans to change it.

The Jake has its purpose but it is by far the worst aesthetic of Jack Trice now that there are other pieces on that end. I hope they tear it down and do something else. Or for God’s sake update the field window coverings that have been faded for like 10years

Like it or not the Jake is there for awhile. Afterall all they did was put a multimillion dollar structure adjacent to it with the same architectural look. So, why would they tear it down? Not gonna happen. Window coverings, though should be updated.

If anyone in the know has any expertise on the hillside sod..... I am guessing that it's needs to be installed on or before June 1, in order for it to grow together and "take." With late August approaching, it needs to be able to withstand the gameday abuse. I'm thinking 90days of growth might do the trick? Anyone out there have an educated guess?

I am by no means a horticulturist. But a Google search says fresh sod takes two weeks to establish a shallow root base. 6 weeks for deeper roots.

When they resodded the highschool football field in my hometown, it was only done a few weeks before the season started. Aside from a few decent sized divots from players cleats there were no issues, and is in great shape today. I would put the date closer to mid to late July that that needs to be done.

Good to know. I'm not well versed is this area. Thanks!

How are they going to haul in all that back fill over the new big ass walls?
I don't know but last night some dirt was brought in using front bucket loaders over the makeshift road just south of the west tunnel entrance to the NW hill. I can't see that route working for dump trucks.
Asking, because I don’t know the answer.

Are there elevators designed for lifting and transporting soil, the way you do corn into a grain bin? Say, over a concrete retaining wall?

And if not...is there someone here who would like to get rich with me?

Do you really think it has the “same architectural look”? I mean, you’re the expert, so I’ll ask.

To me (for what little it’s worth), one is white, the other silver/gray. The windows don’t come close to matching. The Performance Center doesn’t have that phallic/arrow atrium thingy running down the middle. The roof profiles are different. And the Jake is going to be masked on the Performance Center side by a pile of what amounts to scaffolding.

I’m curious what an expert sees.

I know it’s not like the stone aesthetic of central campus, but other than that, I don’t see more than a general similarity.

Roof slope and bulk glass were no coincidence. Subtle differences, yes, but basic form not so much. Also, from inside the stadium those features will meld with the Jake. That said, I'm coming from typical architect speak and what I imagined they pitched when they sold them the idea.

I'll take a wild guess here that Jamie has someone at the University turf management area on this.

I can understand that...I was one of the crazy one's who would wait in line for 3 hours prior to gates opening...sit in the stadium for 2 hours prior to the game starting....each game day was very long for me as a student lol

They are called "Telebelts". There are several in the Des Moines/Ames area. More commonly used to move ready mix or rock/sand they will work for soil.
