I should have clarified that the retaining wall is the concrete colored shape directly outside of the fence alongside the ramp up to the concourse (circled in picture). The black shape in the background appears to be the existing Bergstrom building. I would assume the sidewalk will still go between Bergstrom and JTS.I expect that the sidewalk will remain that curves around to the west entrance gate; that sidewalk would be on the right side of the ramp up to the concourse. If so, that would not be a full retaining wall, if that's what it is.
Okay, I admit it. As much as I want the NEZ truly bowled in with seating and amenities (likely ten or twenty years out), we need to add the press box to Jamie’s “Honey-Do” list. The rendering on the SPC website shows a retaining wall between the NW entrance ramp and SPC, so I would imagine they're digging in preparation for that. It also might mean removing the angled walls for the tunnel entrance on that side.

I am terrible with estimates of time involving construction...when is this project supposed to be completed?
They're going to have to put sod on those hillsides and get that growing, so I'd expect that part to be done in the next few weeks. The rest of it they'll be finishing up all summer, as the only real deadline is the first home game. I would guess that they'll want to have as much of the interior of the SPC done as possible for the June official visits. But I'd imagine that they will be putting finishing touches on things into August.
Spring Commencement is in Jack Trice on May 8 for all colleges. So I am guessing that there is some urgency to complete some of this ahead of 5/8.
Not really. They'll just use the south half of the stadium and block off the north half.
I would assume the south entrance just like for game days.Logistics will be interesting. The ceremonies for each college are basically back-to-back and on opposite sides of the stadium, alternating back and forth from East to West. I'm trying to figure out where the handicapped entrance will be to get my mother in and out.
I love the smell of fresh concrete in the morning. Smells like victory.Matter be it’s just me, but the way that the morning sun is shining on the precast is striking. Especially is the midst of the mess of a construction zone.View attachment 84376
And also going in are the forms for the NW low retaining wall for the walkway to the concourse.Looks as though there may be glass pane replacement work starting on SPC.
I don't know but last night some dirt was brought in using front bucket loaders over the makeshift road just south of the west tunnel entrance to the NW hill. I can't see that route working for dump trucks. How are they going to haul in all that back fill over the new big ass walls?

A while ago folks were wondering what was the work on the NW end of the tunnel. Today it looks like that work was to allow another section of the tunnel to go in which brings the roof to the new low retaining wall. And also going in are the forms for the NW low retaining wall for the walkway to the concourse.
Agreed. While watching that I just thought how expensive that dirt was compared to last Saturday's dirt from the dump trucks. It was pretty funny watch the circuitous route those two Cats were taking from in front to the SPC around the tunnel entrance, up the hill past the dumpsters, and over to the inside corner. I watched in frustration thinking "that's just stupid".
I watched for a while too. It was roughly 3 min round trips for those 2 loaders. So 40 loads/hr.It was pretty funny watch the circuitous route those two Cats were taking from in front to the SPC around the tunnel entrance, up the hill past the dumpsters, and over to the inside corner.
