Jerry Palm's update (ISU still needs one more win) LINK

Wow. Some people get so bent out of shape over Jerry Palm. I say we forget about that guy and quit giving him the mindspace. Life will be much more enjoyable if we just enjoy the team and quit overanalyzing what one pundit says. We can't control it, so why worry.

Isn't anyone else a bit worried about this?

Here's our top 100 RPI wins: 6, 40, @40, 53.

And here's the top 100 RPI wins for Illinois, a team practically everyone has outside looking in: 4, 7, 19, @47, 80, @87.

We have a gaudy conference record, but I'm not going to be completely confident until we get one more quality win.

FYI: He's trolling you and you're taking the bait. As well as providing him press by linking his articles.

If someone's job is to predict NCAA tournament teams, and he's trolling instead of doing that job...isn't he 100000x more obsessed than any ISU fan?

My job is to design products and illustrations. If I were to do the opposite of that and just scribble on paper with crayons to tick somebody off what does that say about me? For one thing I'd get fired. For another I'd lose the distinction of calling myself a designer.

If he wants to troll he should call himself a professional troll instead of a bracketologist or analyst.

Illinois bad losses offset their good wins.

He makes some valid points. I think his opinion is wrong, but I don't think it's outrageous.

Illinois RPI: 72 and dropping like a 100 ton weight

Illinois has lost 9 out of 10 games. Among those 9 losses are two losses worse than any of ISU's losses.

If top 100 RPI wins were the ONLY factor considered, then I would share your worries. It is not the only factor, though.

Illinois is only 16-12, is 5 games under .500 in their conference, and they just got destroyed by a truly horrible Nebraska team. There are many reasons why Illinois is on the outside looking in.

Illinois has one win since January 10th and zero in February. Including an *** kicking at mighty Nebraska.

RPI rankings:

ISU - 31
Ill - 75

Not too worried. Seems like most people look at Top 50 wins anyway, and if Texas can move up 3 spots, we'd have 4 wins over Top 50 teams - 5 if we can beat Baylor at home.

Palm is an idiot. If Doug says we are a lock(he did last night) than we are. Simple as that people. Don't listen to what this guy says. We are 100% a lock. We could lose 3 straight games by 20 and still be in.

Thread title is misleading. Palm isn't saying we NEED one more win:

Iowa State picked up its first away-from-home win of any significance when it completed the season sweep of Kansas State. The Cyclones now have four top 100 RPI wins (despite a gaudy 11-5 conference record), and should be safe if they can get one more. Teams with just four top 100 wins have received 13 at-large bids in the last 18 years, but that's out of 250 teams.

I think he has us on the bubble right now. I don't agree with that, and right now I don't think I'll be sweating on Selection Sunday if we go 0-3 to close the season.... but I probably would be anyway. Even though I think we're in, one more win would slam the door behind us and put a lock on it in every way.

The reason Palm is so clueless regarding ISU is his focus on this wins over top 100 rpi teams.

If Iowa or Drake were to catch fire and move into the top 100 I guess that means ISU is a lot better.

There's really little difference in teams ranked 75-100 and teams ranked 100-125. When you get into top 50 your'e talking big dance teams and that matters.

Other than @Michigan, ISU has beat or almost beat every NCAA tournament team they've faced.

Yesterday's win slammed the door behind us people. Jesus ******.
