Jake Waters

Something needs to be done, the fact that no one can beat out Barnett or Jantz is not good.

I liked Jantz before the season but he has proved he does not have the decision making ability. I also like Barnett because of the fact that he just WINS but he has to make the the easy throws that he couldnt make today. Hopefully one of the young guys steps up next year or Barnett completely puts it together.

Not counting today's game, Waters' stats on the season through 6 games:

Passing - 112/152 (73.7%), 1696 yds, 282.7 ypg, 11.2 ypa, 22TD, 3INT

Rushing - 22 carries for 198 yds (9.0 ypc), 4 TD

4 of those games were against Top 21 teams in the NJCAA rankings.

As a team, they are averaging 623 yards/game (344 passing, 279 rushing) and 67.5 ppg.

Agree. Richardson or Rohach may be "the future" but isn't that always the case with the young backup QB?. If they were really that good they wouldn't be 3rd string and redshirting behind mediocre-average Big XII QBs.

Obviously (BCS) teams see something in Waters and have offered and I think we should too. From the rumblings on this board hes a Cyclone fan and would love to be a part of the program. If he wins the QB job, great. If not, then we have another backup QB or we move him to another position.

An uproven (JuCo) recruit may be "the future" and is better than the previous QB recruits, but isn't that always the case?. If they were really that good they wouldn't be at a JuCo.

Kids go to JUCO for certain reasons. 1, they went unnoticed in high school. 2. They transferred out of a bigger program. 3. They didn't qualify out of high school. 4. They were injured in high school, so they weren't recruited. 5. They didn't play high school football. They don't always go JUCO because they aren't good enough to play for the big boys.

Cool.

The point is, the poster mocked the common feeling that the ones you have not seen being the future (a redshirting freshman and/or a redshirt freshman), then proceeded to allude to the future being a recruit.

My thought process is that a JUCO kid with good (great?) numbers is a better QB than the 3rd/4th string QB's behind the QB's we have now

Sounds like the thought process used by those thinking SR or GR should see time.
My thought is SR and GR both had great numbers as recruits. I think even the most dense posters realize it is not incriminating to not start as a true freshman, and SR may see time yet.

I think you are right when it comes to Sam R. or Grant R. but invite as many guys as you can to compete for the QB position.

Per twitter, IWCC QB Jake Waters just received an offer from K-State today. He played for CB St. Alberts in high school.

Jake Waters - Yahoo! Sports

Anyone know if we are interested?

Also, sounds like Akron and N.C. State have offered according to this article.

Iowa Western QB Jake Waters has N.C. State, Akron offers

Can we please go recruit this kid?

JB is a very weak thrower and if old man Snyder thinks hes an ample replacement for Klien then he should be far and away good enough for us.

and before anyone says "but..but.. richardson/rohach!!! the future!!!!" this kid is puting up real numbers against real competition, not 3rd string and redshirting behind two of the worst QBs in the Big 12

I have a buddy who is a teammate of Jake Waters and says he's the real deal. Says he wasn't sure how good he was when he first got there but soon after the kid just kicked all ***.

I have heard that all IWCC runs a ton of short routes and its the receives that make his numbers look so good. Those same people have told me he is very good.

Perhaps we should be recruiting some IWCC receivers too - make it a package deal.

That is what Penn State is trying to accomplish but with the running back from IWCC in Wimberly committed to Iowa State. Them two going together makes me nervous for Wimberly staying committed to Iowa State.

I don't know anything about Waters but KSU has a very good RS Fr (Daniel Sims) backing up Klein and I think they expect Sims to take the reins. Very good runner.

I know that this is a radical thought, but um...maybe CPR has some clue how good any of his quarterbacks will be? Like, as in...from actually seeing them practice, rather than making inferences? Sorry to go all wild and crazy on you.

This is what I have heard as well. Like Michael Bishop except not quite as big of a cannon arm.
